What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clerk of Council/Administrative Assistant position at Town of Chase City?

This position will deliver a high degree of customer service by providing information in person and by telephone. This position is assigned a wide range of technical responsibilities and includes processing, data entry and counter duties. Documents must be prepared with accuracy and in accordance with local policies. The position answers to the Treasurer on a day to day basis, but also answers to the Town Manager and Town Council.

Must be detail oriented, highly accurate and be able to multitask in a sometimes fast paced office. Must have a high degree of professionalism, tact and diplomacy when interacting with customers and co-workers whether in person or on the phone. Requires a quick and attentive learner who performs clerical duties, such as typing, filing, receipting, data entry; records and calculates taxes; must deliver a high degree of customer service while assisting the public in an efficient, courteous and timely manner.

Working knowledge of automated office practices, procedures and office equipment, exceptional typing skills, extensive PC experience including proficiency with Word and Excel; demonstrated ability to interpret and follow oral and written rules, regulations and instructions. Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team. This job will also require long periods of sitting and standing.

This position will also act as Clerk of Council for the Chase City Town Council. Duties include taking minutes for meetings, recording them in the minute book, sending notices for Special Council meetings, notifying the press as well as other tasks. A general knowledge of State laws and local ordinances is a plus but not required. Knowledge of Robert’s Rules of Order and parliamentary procedure, preferred but not required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $33,100.00 - $47,000.00 per year
