The Advancement Office hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Regular evening and weekend work is required as well as the ability to travel.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for University Advancement (AVC), the Development Officer will be responsible for securing leadership annual and major gifts that align donor interests with University priorities. Major gifts are defined as $25,000 or more. The Development Officer will manage a portfolio of research-based leadership annual gift and major gift prospects for the purpose of assessment and working collaboratively with development colleagues and leadership to strategically cultivate and solicit philanthropic support from alumni, parents and friends of the university.
As the university looks towards its first comprehensive campaign the Development Officer will have a critical role in building the major gift pipeline, identifying opportunities for donor engagement, and aligning donors’ philanthropic interests with the emerging priorities of the campaign.
The Development Officer will serve as a visible, key representative of the university and will be responsible for effectively communicating the university’s mission and fundraising priorities to external stakeholders. The Development Officer will be responsible for recording interactions in the advancement database and will protect confidential information.

Required Education/Experience/Skills
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required with related experience
  • At least two (2) years of professional-level, direct solicitation/fundraising experience

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills
  • Strong knowledge of the development field and fundraising techniques
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Experience with annual and major gift fundraising, preferably in a university setting

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent communication and personal skills to work effectively with a diverse audience of internal and external stakeholders
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with ability to collaborate to maximize effectiveness
  • Ability to navigate complex organizational structures to build consensus and reach goals
  • Demonstrated ability to think and act strategically
  • Excellent active listening skills and ability to connect donor interests to university priorities
  • Ability to build relationships with a wide range of people
  • Ability to approach challenges creatively
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work flexible hours including nights and weekends
  • Familiarity with donor record-keeping database, (Raiser’s Edge NXT preferred)
  • High level of integrity and respect for confidentiality
