Position Summary
The Program Director is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of WellSpace Health’s Recuperative Care (Medical Respite) and Street Nursing Programs. The Director oversees licensed and registered nurses, certified nursing assistants, psychiatric technicians, and other operations staff. This person provides supervision, administrative oversight and program direction. The Director will operate and identify ways to improve quality, safety, compliance, outcomes, and financial and programming growth. Responsibilities include oversight of program policies, procedures, and operations, documentation and records compliance. The Director works in close partnership with managed care plans, funders and community partners to ensure collaboration and continued funding requirements are met. This is a 24/7 residential program requiring on call support. This program serves individuals experiencing homelessness.
Required Qualifications
- Preferred bachelor’s degree required in healthcare, behavioral health or demonstrated experience running an integrated behavioral health program.
- Two years or more working as a manager or director in a healthcare environment.
- Current CPR/BLC certification.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and sound clinical judgment.
- Knowledge and demonstrated skill working with culturally diverse populations.
- Knowledge of the local substance use and mental health treatment community and referrals.
- Experience with fiscal management of programs.
- Ability to abide by standards of professional ethics.
- Excellent interpersonal and supervisory skills, including conflict resolution, crisis intervention, quality improvement and assurance (QI/QA), staff development, and performance appraisal within a Just Culture environment.
- Ability to coordinate and facilitate meetings for staff, colleagues, and stakeholders.
- Ability to design and operate a data collection and program evaluation process, including the compilation of information necessary for grant and contract requirements.
- Ability to work “on-call” as needed.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Effective time management skills, ability to meet deadlines, and maintain organizational stability.
- Ability and willingness to practice and model self-care techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; public speaking skills required
- Computer (PC) literate in Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and ZOOM. EHR experience preferred.
- Commitment to HIPAA and ability to abide by standards of professional ethics and maintain confidentiality.
- Adherence to infection control procedures, including but not limited to, standard precautions of temperature monitoring, hand washing, symptom self-monitoring, masking and social distancing.
- Assist and support the Center/Department/Program to meet standards of High Reliability.
Essential Responsibilities
- Work with patients experiencing homelessness and co-occurring disorders such as mental health, chronic medical conditions, and substance use disorders at a high acuity care facility requiring 24/7 patient support and monitoring.
- Establish, implement and monitor goals, policies, procedures and operational systems for all Care Transition Programs.
- Manage daily operations to assure the 24/7 support staff promote a safe, healing and responsive service for patients.
- Ensure Programs meet the compliance requirements for accreditation, certification and patient safety.
- Collaborate and support the integration of Care Transition with other WellSpace Health departments to provide an array of services for patients.
- Monitor and adjust programming to reflect needs of patients, safety and quality initiatives and requirements, including needs of funding and community partners’ needs.
- Ensure case management and other behavioral health support is practiced in accordance with professional values and principles and within the scope of practice.
- Hire, direct, supervise, and evaluate behavioral health management staff and support staff. Provide corrective actions and plans as needed for staff.
- Identify training and education needs of staff.
- Work with teams to support department through agreement, coordination and teamwork.
- Collaborate and conference with managed care plans, physicians, referrals departments and other partners to coordinate patient care.
- Investigate and evaluate reports of adverse and unusual events, complete documentation.
- Attend required staff, leadership, and All Providers meetings, trainings and in-services as scheduled.
- Assure data and reporting systems are used to support patient outcomes, reporting required by funders and other community partners.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
The work environment is characteristic of a medical clinic environment. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands and arms to reach. The employee is also required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using substances and/or not attentive to personal health and safety for themselves or their homes. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the client’s use of alcohol and drugs, and the lack of personal care. The employee may also be exposed to bodily fluids (blood, urine) and hazardous chemicals.
