The Vice President, New Business Development for Nonprofit Political is responsible for establishing new business relationships with national and regional political organizations, including candidates, advocacy groups, political parties, PACs, and SuperPacs. This position requires a well-connected political candidate who is able to leverage their network to build strong relationships and drive business growth. The individual will be responsible for identifying potential clients, initiating contact, and securing their commitment to join the Wiland Cooperative Database. This is a “hunter” sales role, and the ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of database marketing strategies and tactics for political organizations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Identify, contact, and persuade prospective clients (even reluctant, hesitant, or time-starved) clients to join the Wiland Cooperative Database. This entails calling (including “cold” calls) and coordinating ongoing communication with prospective clients to win a meeting to sell Wiland Cooperative Database membership and services.
- Uncover, incubate, and develop sales leads for direct markers in the Nonprofit Political industries that are candidates for participation in the Wiland Cooperative Database.
- Discern and perceive possible objections of prospective clients quickly, and then clearly and articulately address those concerns in a way that puts put the potential client at ease, overcomes objections, and leads the prospect to join the Wiland Corporative Database.
- Meet with prospective clients in phone conferences, online meetings, and face-to-face to address questions or concerns and persuade such prospects to join Wiland. The position requires travels which varies seasonally, but is approximately 50% on an annual basis. In addition to meeting with prospective clients, travel also includes trade shows, conferences, etc. The goal of travel is to establish a positive rapport and build a relationship with potential clients and continually provide professional, positive exposure to Wiland at all meetings.
- Research and understand issues and problems in the political arena as well as understand solutions for specific prospective clients’ needs and requirements. Collaborate with the Sales Team and leadership to set goals and ensure quotas are met or exceeded. Recommend and share suggestions for sales and marketing strategies to increase Wiland membership.
Qualifications
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in sales, marketing or other related field.
- 7 years of campaign and/or sales experience with demonstrable success in new client acquisition and/or sales.
- 7 year experience in political campaign fundraising or direct response fundraising.
- Expertise in SalesForce.com, LinkedIn, Microsoft products and Concur software or closely related systems.
- Working knowledge of marketing campaign management.
- Strong and demonstrated presentation skills.
- A well-established network within political organizations, with the ability to leverage relationships to generate new business.

- Compensation: Base Salary Range $100,000 - $128,000. Total compensation for this role also includes a variable component that is tied to new account revenue.
