The construction estimator will be responsible for calculating the total cost of a construction project by analyzing project plans, determining required materials and labor, sourcing cost estimates from suppliers and subcontractors, and compiling a comprehensive budget proposal for clients, essentially acting as the financial planner for the construction project.
Key responsibilities:
· Reviewing project documents:
Carefully analyzing blueprints, specifications, and other project documents to understand the scope of work.
· Estimating material quantities:
Calculating the amount of materials needed for the project, including concrete, lumber, fixtures, and finishes.
· Labor cost analysis:
Determining the labor hours required for each task and estimating labor costs based on prevailing wages and crew size.
· Subcontractor bidding:
Soliciting quotes from subcontractors for specialized work like plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
· Cost breakdown:
Creating detailed cost breakdowns outlining material costs, labor costs, equipment rentals, permits, and contingencies.
· Risk assessment:
Identifying potential risks associated with the project and incorporating contingency funds into the estimate.
· Preparing bid proposals:
Compiling all cost estimates into a comprehensive bid package for submission to clients.
· Negotiating contracts:
Collaborating with project managers and clients to negotiate contract terms and pricing.
· Software proficiency:
Utilizing construction estimating software to calculate costs, generate reports, and manage project data.
Required skills for a construction estimator:

Required education: minimum 4-year Bachelor Degree in a relevant field such as construction management, civil engineering or mathematics and minimum of 5-7 years experience in large commerical projects such as convention centers.
