Position Description:
An employee in this class is responsible for a variety of duties in the management of cases in the pretrial program. The Case Manager will provide supervision for defendants and assure all requirements and/or conditions of the release order are adhered to. The employee will be required to conduct interviews within the local detention center and also attend and/or testify in court, as needed. The employee works with a high degree of independence and initiative. The employee will also provide case management to the RRS program in the absence of the Director and/or RRS Case Manager. Work also includes supervision of duties and staff in the absence of the Director. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director and is evaluated through periodic meetings, review of records and reports, and overall performances in daily pretrial release program duties and responsibilities. An employee in this position works 40 hours, Monday – Friday, and the daily schedule varies based upon job duties. Serves as the primary on-call, after-hours staff member.
- Accompanies law enforcement officers to the defendant’s residence for setting up electronic monitoring units.
- Installs the monitoring unit on the defendant and in the home.
- Disengages monitoring units upon completion of the monitoring program.
- Responds to tampering and alerts of electronic monitoring units as required.
- Monitors daily client activity on electronic monitoring and responds swiftly and appropriately.
- Acquires and maintains documentation for all defendant’s activities while in the program.
- Completes data entry into the pretrial release database system.
- Maintains client files in the database system to include scheduling and weekly office visits to report compliance or non-compliance.
- Assists and observes drug screens.
- Appropriately handles confidential or sensitive information.
- Properly conducts interviews with inmates in the detention center who may be eligible for pretrial services.
- Completes required legal documents necessary for the release of pretrial defendants.
- Completes required documentation for violation of court order of pretrial defendants as needed.
- Supervises office functions and staff in the absence of the Director.
- An Associate’s Degree in criminal justice or a human services field and at least three years’ experience in providing case management is required and one year of supervisory experience preferred.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice or human services field and one year of experience in providing case management is required and one year of supervisory experience is preferred.
- A valid NC Driver’s License is required.
- Certification as a Pretrial Service Professional through NAPSA is preferred.
- Must obtain facilitator certification in Moral Reconation Therapy within six months of hire.
