Description of Role and Main Responsibilities:
AnAcademic Advisor plays a crucial role in a college supporting students throughout their educational journey. Their duties and responsibilities typically include:
Student Guidance & Support
- Provide guidance on degree requirements, academic policies, and institutional procedures.
- Help students understand prerequisites, transfer credits, and graduation requirements.
- Prepare, schedule and participate in workshops and orientations.
- Assist with enrollment, acceptance, registration, and academic petitions.
- Guide students when entering the employment market in building comprehensive resumes, appropriate dress code and effective communication skills during interviews.
- Maintain an open communication channel with all students throughout their journey to facilitate the Placement documentation and process once they graduate and become employed in the field. Ensure we are meeting accreditors guidelines with Placement.
- Assist students with all needs and serve as a liaison for the students in all departments, ensuring they get the support they need.
Academic Planning & Progress Monitoring
- Work closely with faculty and DON to Identify students experiencing academic difficulties and provide the appropriate academic support and develop individualized academic as needed.
- Review academic records and provide recommendations for course sequencing.
- Refer students to tutoring to the DON (DON will inform the faculty member and will approve the tutoring days/hours) and reach out to professor(s) to ensure student’s attendance and accountability.
- Provide counseling services as needed and conduct advisements.
Administrative & Compliance Tasks
- Maintain accurate records of student interactions and advising notes.
- Stay updated on institutional policies, curriculum changes, and accreditation requirements.
Retention & Student Success Initiatives
- Engage in student retention efforts by identifying at-risk students and implementing successful strategies.
- Lead the student tutor’s initiative and encourage student participation in extracurricular and professional development activities.
- Establish and maintain a strong relationship with the student council to listen, assess, and implement new student initiatives when feasible.
Education Level:
Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology or related field (required)

Schedule: Monday - Friday (Mornings and evenings)
