Who we are looking for:
We are currently looking for a Technical Product Engineer II to be based out of our Harvey, IL facility or Addison, IL office. Reporting to the Director, Global Product Engineering, this person will be responsible for supporting the Metal Framing-North America Business Unit with locations in Harvey, IL and Wayne, MI. The Technical Product Engineer is the primary technical resource for the external field sales force, end-customers, and manufacturing/operations. Ideal candidate must be self-motivated with a proven track record in product and service sales and knowledge of technology.
What you’ll do:
- Drive innovation and new product development through the generation of new ideas, designing products, leading projects, and supporting commercialization efforts following Atkore’s stage gate process.
- Support efforts to innovate and create value for our customers through deep customer interaction, closely supporting critical project needs, and driving successful commercialization of new products.
- Provides product, service, or equipment technical and engineering information by answering questions and requests.
- Must be able to establish and maintain strong relationships with cross-functional teams. Interface with manufacturing team to prototype and build custom solutions for customers.
- Support manufacturing on Value-Added/Value Engineering efforts that will benefit both our customers by providing higher quality items and Atkore by simplifying the manufacturing and product management in SKU rationalization
- Maintain and update the Unistrut/Powerstrut technical library, including CAD models, drawings, specifications, test data, etc.
- Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; advising customer on product, service, or equipment adherence to requirements; advising customer on needed actions.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
- Ability to travel (10%)
What you’ll bring:
- Must have proficient knowledge of AutoCAD or SolidWorks
- Aptitude in AutoCAD / Inventor
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical. 3-5 years' of Engineering experience
- Ideal candidate must be self-motivated with a proven track record in product and service sales and knowledge of technology.
- Comfortable in the dynamic atmosphere of a technical organization with a rapidly expanding customer base. Must possess strong presentation skills and be able to communicate professionally in written responses to emails, RFPs, and when submitting reports.
- Organized and analytical, able to eliminate sales obstacles through creative and adaptive approaches.
- Self-starter, organized, analytical and innovative problem solver
- Experience and familiarity of our products and line of business a plus
Within 3 months, you’ll:
- Complete your Atkore immersion program.
- Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore’s strategy.
- Gain an understanding of the Global Metal Framing team.
- Gain an understanding of the training materials, procedures, and systems you own.
Within 6 months, you’ll:
- You will be working on the development of a strategic new-product project for Atkore
- Become familiar with the design, manufacturing, and locations where Atkore Unistrut/Powerstrut products are manufactured
Within 12 months, you’ll:
- Working cross-functionally launching these projects
- Working with customers to ensure product requirements are reflected in delivered solution
- Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and simplifying the business
