Athletic Director

Position Summary:

Atlanta Jewish Academy, a private Early Childhood - 12th Grade school in Sandy Springs is currently seeking an Athletic Director for the 2024-2025 school year. The individual will report to the Executive Director and is responsible for the oversight and management of the Middle School and High School Athletic Programs. The Athletic Director will develop and maintain athletic policies and procedures, and promote the values of physical fitness, athleticism and good sportsmanship through the school’s athletic program. This position requires strong leadership and organizational skills, and a commitment to promoting the values of sportsmanship, teamwork, and excellence in student-athletes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Management:
  • Develop and implement athletic programs that align with the School’s mission
  • Develop policies and procedures to ensure the smooth operation of the athletic programs.
  • Coordinate scheduling of practices, games, and tournaments for middle school and high school teams, while coordinating with the academic calendar.
  • Manage budgetary resources effectively to support the needs of the athletic programs.
  • Oversee the maintenance of athletic facilities and equipment.
  • Coach at least two teams per year.
  • Supervise the verification of student eligibility.
  • Staff Supervision:
  • Recruit, hire, and supervise coaching staff for all middle school and high school athletic teams.
  • Provide guidance, support, and professional development opportunities for coaches.
  • Conduct regular evaluations of coaching staff performance.
  • Supervise the verification of coaches’ certifications
  • Student-Athlete Development:
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment that promotes the holistic development of student-athletes.
  • Encourage academic achievement and support student-athletes in balancing their academic and athletic commitments.
  • Emphasize the importance of sportsmanship, teamwork, and integrity both on and off the field.
  • Compliance and Safety:
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, policies, and guidelines governing middle school and high school athletics.
  • Oversee the implementation of safety protocols and risk management procedures to protect the well-being of student-athletes.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends and best practices in athletic administration and incorporate them into program planning and management.
  • Community Engagement:
  • Represent the school while interacting with other athletic directors and coaches
  • Manage and maintain the athletic handbook and mission statement
  • Oversee all communication about the athletic program and vision with the school community via our school Marketing Department
  • Manage and maintain information on the school’s athletics webpage including photos, coach bios, game schedules and locations with the Marketing Department
  • Host home games: organize volunteers for set-up and clean-up, running clock and keeping scorebook
  • Organize all parent volunteers and coordinate all transportation.
  • Establish and maintain systems of communication for students, parents, coaches, faculty, staff and administration regarding schedules, policies, and other related updates
  • Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, teaching credential, coaching education program (PCA) and/or master’s degree preferred
  • Strong leadership abilities with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations governing middle school and high school athletics.
  • Commitment to promoting the values of sportsmanship, teamwork, and academic excellence.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed to support athletic events and activities.
  • Background Check and CPR/First Aid certified required
