Senior Environmental Specialist (EHS) (2302485) – Freeport, TX
You will support, facilitate, and implement environmental programs to ensure compliance with corporate, federal, state and local regulatory requirements. You will have expertise in environmental management in all media – air, water, waste. Experience in Health, Safety and Process Safety is desirable. This position reports to the Environmental Manager in Freeport Texas.
- Provide technical and regulatory expertise to Freeport site production units to ensure environmental compliance with air, water, and waste programs associated with federal, state, and local permits in addition to corporate requirements.
- Participate in corporate audits to ensure compliance with regulatory and company policy requirements.
- Prepare applications for environmental permits.
- Compile information, prepare, and submit to the TCEQ reports for air emissions.
- Represent EHS function in project step reviews, incident investigations, and Management of Change process.
- Review Freeport regulatory incident reports for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
- Approx eight weeks per year provide 24-hour on call assistance and agency reporting for Freeport environmental incidents.
- Mentor compliance persons within Freeport production units and provide regulatory training to new compliance personnel.
- Establish Key Performance Indicator goals and create tools to allow tracking of your progress throughout each year.
- Interface with regulatory agencies and third parties, on compliance investigations and enforcement issues.
- Prepare requests for proposals and manage budgets for control device testing and permitting projects utilizing consultants.
- Collaborate with management on identified EHS issues, recommendations, and opportunities to foster continuous improvement of EHS programs and a compliance culture.
- Assist other corporate sites and Freeport production units with implementation of corporate standardized EHS policies and procedures, including but not limited to, Management of Change, Incident/Accident investigation, and HAZCOM.

- Bachelor's degree; B.S in Engineering or Environmental Science is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of environmental regulatory and technical expertise is required.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize projects, accept responsibility, and follow through without close supervision.
- Ability to tactfully interact and effectively communicate with state and federal regulatory agencies.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- MS Office proficiency
- Willing/able to travel up to 10%
Preferred
- Experience in chemical manufacturing environment.
- 10 years of environmental regulatory and technical expertise.
- Experience with Hazardous and Non-Hazardous Deep Wells.
- In-depth technical skills, including mathematical calculations, pollution control theory, and interpretation of analytical results.
- Familiarity with Texas 30 TAC environmental regulations and rules.
