Join us as a Senior Estate Officer (SEO)
Brown Brothers Harriman is currently recruiting a SEO to join our Trust Company. In this role, you will report to the Director of Estate Administration (DEA) and represent BBH’s two National Trust Companies both internally and externally. You will oversee and be responsible for all facets of estate administration and will assist the DEA in the development of new business for BBH’s National Trust Companies. You will also assist the DEA with identifying and reviewing new business opportunities and making recommendations to the DEA for business acceptance purposes. The SEO will also assist the DEA in creating a marketing strategy for estate administration services and supporting the integration of that strategy with the Relationship Management Teams and National Trust Companies.
Some of your key responsibilities include:
- Account and People Management and Oversight
- Independently administer a complex book of estates including collection and valuation of assets, payment of debts and expenses, overseeing sale of estate assets, filing of required tax returns, and coordinating beneficiary distributions
- Oversee junior estate administrators in the performance of estate administration responsibilities
- External and Internal Collaboration
- Collaborate with outside advisors, relationship management teams, and trust officers to deliver comprehensive estate administration services
- Frequent communication with co-fiduciaries and beneficiaries
- Business Development
- Assist DEA with marketing initiatives to attract new estate business to BBH and the two National Trust Companies
- Focus on internal marketing of estate services offering by working with relationship management teams and trust officers to identify estate administration opportunities
- Foster working relationships with local attorneys and new business referral sources
- Systems, Policies, and Procedures
- Ensure compliance with all internal and external regulatory requirements and standards
- Track important deadlines
- Maintain appropriate estate administrations records
- Assist DEA in developing new department policies and procedures
- Fiduciary Counsel and Risk Management
- Review agreements prepared by outside counsel, including trust agreements, trustee succession documents, and release and indemnification agreements
- Partner with Fiduciary Counsel on client related matters, providing legal support as necessary
Qualifications:
- JD/LLM preferred.
- 7-10 years estate administration experience required
- Deep technical knowledge of trust, estate and tax law and a strong desire to keep that knowledge current
- The ability to work with clients, their advisors and other BBH professionals in a collaborative and advisory role
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Outstanding relationship building skills

This role is based in our New York City office will be a hybrid role, with three days in office.
Salary Range
$150k-$170k base salary annual bonus target
BBH’s compensation program includes base salary, discretionary bonuses, and profit-sharing.
