As a Home Study Writer, you will be primarily responsible for conducting quality family assessments, along with placement and post placement supervision in compliance with agency guidelines and state licensing regulations. This individual is also responsible for insuring the best resources are available for children entrusted to adoption placement.
This position is expected to function effectively with high to moderate supervision while following the guidelines given on procedures, along with agency, federal, and state licensing regulatory requirements.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct family assessments in accordance with agency expectations and state guidelines;
- Coordinate and facilitate periodic adoption group meetings for prospective families interested in adoption for orientation and support;
- Develop home studies for initially approved families in accordance with agency expectations and procedures;
- Provide post adoptive supervision of children in placement during the supervisory year;
- Manage all reports and documents in accordance with agency expectations to ensure timely and accurate submission;
- Stay up-to-date with training requirements and apply knowledge on the job as needed;
- Regularly meet with supervisor to consult on cases, to review case plan and direction, and to evaluate work progress;
- Stay abreast of all agency, federal, and state regulatory requirements related to Foster Care, Licensing, and State Adoption;
- Completed other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s level degree in Human Services, Social Work or related field of study from an accredited college;
- Master’s level degree in Human Services, Social Work or related field of study from an accredited college, a plus;
- Experience with writing home studies for domestic adoptions;
- Prior experience in a child and family welfare agency;
- Must have a broad knowledge of basic principles, concepts, and methodology of social work as acquired through a Bachelor’s level degree;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to work independently;
- Must exhibit an ability to apply the principles of logic and critical thinking with problem solving;
- Must be reliable with time sensitive deadlines and tasks;
- Exercise a high level of confidentiality;
- Work well under pressure and adaptable to change;
- Master’s level must have experience writing international adoption assessments;
- Master’s level must have experience writing SAFE assessments;
- Active motor vehicle license and a reliable automobile with adequate insurance coverage;
- Pass a criminal history screen, including state and local child protection agency registries;
- Subscription to and integration of the agency Statement of Faith, Mission Statement, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Commitment.
