What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Accounting Assistant position at BHS Construction?

Primary Accountabilities:
The successful candidate will assist with a variety of accounting functions, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Construction Project Job Costing, Vendor Check Management, Payroll Backup, and general office support. This role requires strong organizational skills, a solid understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to maintain confidentiality and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Major Duties:

  • Accounts Payable:
  • Process vendor invoices and ensure they are accurately recorded and paid in a timely manner.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
  • Assist with the preparation of payments, including checks and ACH transfers.
  • Accounts Receivable:
  • Monitor and manage customer accounts and collections.
  • Prepare and send invoices to clients.
  • Apply customer payments to accounts and maintain accurate records.
  • Assist in following up on overdue accounts to ensure timely payments.
  • Construction Project Job Costing:
  • Assist with tracking and allocating costs associated with construction projects.
  • Maintain and update job costing records, including labor, materials, and subcontractor expenses.
  • Work closely with project managers to ensure accurate and up-to-date cost reporting.
  • Vendor Check Management:
  • Assist with the preparation and processing of vendor checks.
  • Maintain records of issued checks and ensure accurate tracking and filing of payment information.
  • Payroll Backup:
  • Provide support for payroll processing, including data entry and verifying timecards.
  • Assist in preparing payroll reports and ensure employee hours are accurately recorded.
  • Assist in the coordination of payroll distribution and address any payroll-related questions.
  • General Office Support:
  • Assist in daily office tasks, such as filing, organizing paperwork, and maintaining an orderly workspace.
  • Help prepare and process reports as needed by management.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • 2 years of accounting or office support experience, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in all tasks.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.

Physical Demands:

· Ability to stand, walk; sit and reach with hands and arms.

· Ability to read computer screens, email and talk on the phone.

· Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.

· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
