What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Accounting Assistant position at BHS Construction?
Primary Accountabilities:
The successful candidate will assist with a variety of accounting functions, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Construction Project Job Costing, Vendor Check Management, Payroll Backup, and general office support. This role requires strong organizational skills, a solid understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to maintain confidentiality and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Major Duties:
- Accounts Payable:
- Process vendor invoices and ensure they are accurately recorded and paid in a timely manner.
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
- Assist with the preparation of payments, including checks and ACH transfers.
- Accounts Receivable:
- Monitor and manage customer accounts and collections.
- Prepare and send invoices to clients.
- Apply customer payments to accounts and maintain accurate records.
- Assist in following up on overdue accounts to ensure timely payments.
- Construction Project Job Costing:
- Assist with tracking and allocating costs associated with construction projects.
- Maintain and update job costing records, including labor, materials, and subcontractor expenses.
- Work closely with project managers to ensure accurate and up-to-date cost reporting.
- Vendor Check Management:
- Assist with the preparation and processing of vendor checks.
- Maintain records of issued checks and ensure accurate tracking and filing of payment information.
- Payroll Backup:
- Provide support for payroll processing, including data entry and verifying timecards.
- Assist in preparing payroll reports and ensure employee hours are accurately recorded.
- Assist in the coordination of payroll distribution and address any payroll-related questions.
- General Office Support:
- Assist in daily office tasks, such as filing, organizing paperwork, and maintaining an orderly workspace.
- Help prepare and process reports as needed by management.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- 2 years of accounting or office support experience, preferably in the construction industry.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in all tasks.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
Physical Demands:
· Ability to stand, walk; sit and reach with hands and arms.
· Ability to read computer screens, email and talk on the phone.
· Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.
· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
