What are the responsibilities and job description for the Merchandiser, eCommerce position at Big Lots?
Responsible for strategy and execution of site merchandising initiatives. Develops merchandising strategy for responsible areas of the site and partners closely with Site Content and Product Content teams to optimize category shopping pages and product detail pages to grow conversion. Partners with Buying teams to understand strategies and create plans to effectively activate products online. Responsible for communicating assortment, content, promotional and visual merchandising needs to cross functional site partners and ensuring the Merchandising vision and an omni-channel shopping experience is reflected online.
1. Responsible for all aspects of online merchandising presentation for assigned departments (approximately 2,000 – 4,000 skus): categorization, collections, style variants, cross-sells, etc.
2. Works closely with Buying team to understand assortments. Leverages knowledge to develop strategy for product launch on site.
3. Develops monthly, quarterly, and/or seasonal merchandising strategies for designated areas of the site. Gains alignment from manager and cross-functional site and marketing partners.
4. Defines strategy for Navigation / Taxonomy updates, SVC / Combo / Collection product pages, Product Page content enhancements, and Facets / Filters. Gains alignment with manager and partners prior to execution.
5. Assists in Workflow communication and prioritization as needed including New Page Checklist, Product Content Review, Jira Requests, etc.
6. Executes site merchandising strategy to optimize category pages and product pages on site. Audits pages to ensure strong execution. Manages launch product and page launches to designated set dates.
7. Utilizes personalization tools to drive sort order on page. Tests and launches new recipes for optimization.
8. Reads and reacts to demand selling and site metrics to improve category and product page performance.
9. Supports digital marketing efforts with thoughtful linking strategies and landing experiences.
10. Provides feedback on sales and fulfillment data, category performance, search detail, ratings and reviews to Buying team and cross functional partners.
11. Manages complete product lifecycle online from product launch through promotional cadence and end of life.
12. Manages all Online Merchandising communication and conflict resolution for areas of responsibility with Digital Marketing, eCommerce Operations, and Site team partners.
13. Researches the marketplace and competitive set for trends and new ideas related to the online consumer shopping experience and site presentation.
14. Determines SEO opportunities within assigned departments and partner with ecommerce marketing to support SEO initiatives.
15. Manages in-season changes to merchandising strategy as needed.
16. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with Cross Functional team members.
Qualification
1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
2. Minimum three to five years of experience as a merchant or site merchandiser preferred.
3. Ability to work independently under general supervision and make independent decisions within guidelines based on available information required.
4. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects required.
5. Ability to build and maintain productive relationships with peers and cross-functional teams required.
6. Excellent computer skills including advanced Excel skills, proficiency in PowerPoint and Word, and ability to learn technical applications quickly required.
7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
8. Skill in site navigation, Oracle/ATG platform preferred.
9. Personalization Merchandising Tool experience required. Reflektion preferred
10. Experience with sales and site analytics required. Microstrategy, Full Story, and Adobe Analytics preferred.
11. Strong team leadership, coaching, and people development skills preferred. Prior experience managing people preferred.
