JOB SUMMARY:

The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily production operations in the compounding pharmacy to ensure the timely, efficient, and accurate preparation of compounded medications. This role includes supervising staff, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards (USP <795>, <797>, <800>, and 503B where applicable), maintaining quality control, and optimizing production processes to meet patient and client needs.

Operational Oversight:

  • Supervise daily compounding production to ensure adherence to the production schedule.
  • Assign tasks and responsibilities to pharmacy technicians and compounding staff.
  • Monitor workflow efficiency and implement adjustments as needed.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure all compounding activities comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including USP standards and FDA 503B guidelines (if applicable).
  • Maintain proper documentation of compounding activities, equipment maintenance, and batch records.
  • Oversee adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality assurance protocols.

Staff Supervision and Development:

  • Train, mentor, and evaluate the performance of compounding staff.
  • Provide ongoing education and training to update staff on new techniques, standards, and regulations.
  • Address personnel issues, including scheduling, discipline, and conflict resolution.

Quality Assurance and Safety:

  • Oversee the preparation of compounded medications to ensure accuracy, sterility (if required), and quality.
  • Conduct routine checks to ensure proper equipment cleaning, calibration, and maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols for hazardous and non-hazardous drugs (e.g., USP <800>).

Inventory and Resource Management:

  • Manage raw materials and supplies inventory levels, ensuring adequate stock for production needs.
  • Coordinate with purchasing and inventory staff for reordering and managing expiring stock.
  • Oversee proper storage and labeling of all materials.

Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities to enhance production efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Collaborate with management to implement new technologies or procedures.
  • Regularly review and update SOPs to reflect best practices.

Performs other duties as requested by senior management

EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related field preferred.


EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a compounding pharmacy, including sterile and/or non-sterile compounding.


REQUIRED CERTIFICATES/REGISTRATIONS: Either Certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) preferred or state licensure as required or a pharmacist license. Training in USP <795>, <797>, and <800> standards.


LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance

instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively

before groups of customers or employees of an organization.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions,

percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to maintain a level and appropriate business demeanor.
