Directs the financial affairs of the dealership and prepares financial analyses of operations including interim and final financial statements with supporting schedules, for the guidance of management. The Accountant is responsible for the company’s financial plans and policies, its accounting practices, the conduct of its relationships with lending institutions and the financial community, the maintenance of its fiscal records, and the preparation of financial reports. The position involves supervision over general accounting, payroll, internal auditing, cost accounting, and budgetary controls.
Specific Responsibilities and Duties:
General Accounting
- Directs the preparation of all financial reports including income statements, balance sheets, tax returns and reports; maintains dealership's system of accounts and keeps records of all dealership financial transactions and assets
- Manages accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, cash and checking account reconciliation
- Understands and fully utilizes business system for accounting purposes
- Establishes fiscal policies with approval of the owner/President, and works to ensure those policies are followed by all dealer staff
- Prepares financial documents and reports for lenders, outside accounting firm, local/state/federal entities, etc.; ensures compliance with federal, state and local tax requirements; assists outside accounting firm in tax planning
Relationship with Lenders
- Maintains professional relationship with various lenders such as banks and furniture vendors; works with all lenders to increase lines of credit as necessary
- Ensures dealer is in compliance with any lending agreements; supplies appropriate financial reports as requested
Fiscal Control
- Ensures all purchases are done with purchase orders and all payables match the purchase order before payment (unless there is documented and approved evidence of a legitimate change order)
- Coordinates and directs the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts; works to assist management to keep costs within those budgets; analyzes and provides reports on budget variances
- Does short and long-term forecasting to ensure sales, margins and expenses are in line; analyzes projections of sales and margin against actual figures, as well as budgets against expenses
- Manages job costing (product and service) for all dealer sales
- Generates financial analyses as required
- Processes and reconciles payroll.
- Performs sales tax reconciliations and pays state sales tax as required.
Miscellaneous
- Maintains all financial records in complete confidentiality
- Analyzes company operations to pinpoint opportunities and areas that could improve fiscally
- Estimates financial requirements for capital, property, equipment and personnel
- Directs the development, analysis and interpretation of statistical and accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the dealership
- Oversees any outside audits, complying with all audit requirements in a timely manner
Essential Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, or Business Administration
Related work experience in accounting and/or related field; industry experience is preferred
Solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles
Enterprise software, MS Office, Online Banking and ACH
Professional written, verbal and interpersonal skills
