The Community Impact Internship position is designed to provide an experiential learning environment for individuals seeking to learn and grow in the field of public health. The intern will have the opportunity to explore the Healthy Living and Community Health/Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) departments while spending time at the Cabarrus Health Alliance.
Illustrative Duties/Responsibilities
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of theories, principles and practices associated with public health, community-based health promotion, social marketing, and program coordination; Knowledge of community-based participatory action principles; understanding of community-building principles and techniques is imperative. An interest in public heath, health education, social work and/or community engagement is needed. Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work with diverse groups are critical. Strong communication skills are needed within in-person and virtual settings.

Illustrative Duties/Responsibilities
- Assist with planning, implementation and evaluation of the Healthy Living and Community Health/SDOH department programs (i.e., Minority Diabetes Prevention Program, Culinary Innovation, Lifestyle Medicine, and Racial and Ethnic Approach to Community Health (REACH)).
- The Intern will complete a rotation with both departments to ensure a comprehensive understanding of how each department works and collaborates. Additionally, the intern will complete the following deliverables:
- Shadow each Healthy Living and Community Health/SDOH department program
- Attend community outreach events and programs
- Support the implementation of Kids in the Kitchen cooking classes
- Develop and organize content for CHA’s social marketing campaign
- Other duties and opportunities will be assigned and provided based on the intern’s time, availability, and interest.
