Carr’s Tree Service is currently hiring motivated Ground Technicians to join our Tree Care team.
As a Ground Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting our arborists and tree care specialists in delivering top-notch services to our valued clients. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assist arborists and tree care specialists in various tree care tasks, including tree pruning, trimming, and removals.
- Safely and efficiently operate equipment, such as chainsaws, chippers, stump grinders, and aerial lifts, under the guidance of experienced team members.
- Help in the proper set-up and maintenance of work zones to ensure the safety of the team and the public.
- Load and unload equipment and materials from company vehicles and assist with their transportation to job sites.
- Manage tree debris and brush, ensuring proper disposal or recycling as per company guidelines.
- Perform routine maintenance on tree care equipment to keep them in optimal working condition.
- Support the team in identifying tree health issues, pest infestations, and potential hazards.
- Follow all safety protocols and adhere to industry best practices during tree care operations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to promote efficiency and safety.
- Uphold a positive attitude with landowners, crew members, and the public.
- Take part in pre-job briefing with crew assessing each work zone for hazard potential.
- Set out cones and signs as needed at work sites.
- Work as a flagger utilizing traffic communication devices.
- Work as a spotter ensuring that crew members stay out of the minimum approach distance of the powerlines.
- Ability to react in an emergency situation. Understand and perform first aid, CPR aerial rescue procedures, and maintain certifications.
- Attend all-company meetings, functions, and trainings required.
- Performs other related duties as required or assigned. Changes in this job description may occur at any time.
Job Requirements:
- Previous experience as a Ground Technician or in a similar role within the tree care industry is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Basic knowledge of tree care practices, equipment, and safety procedures is desirable.
- A strong commitment to safety and the ability to follow instructions and guidelines.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to drive company vehicles to job sites.
- Ability to operate and service all required tools and equipment.
- Has/willing to obtain a valid First-Aid and CPR card
- Relevant certifications or training in tree care and safety will be considered a plus.
- Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and handle physically demanding tasks. Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check. Able to Pass DOT medical exam and receive DOT Medical Card
Physical Requirements include but are not limited to:
- Ability to communicate professionally, both verbal and in writing, with the general public, customers, and fellow employees.
- Must be able to wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Needs to be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times per day.
- Must be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work tasks such as rain, heat, sun, cold, snow. Including working in varying temperatures: 90F to -25F.
- Ability to operate and service all required tools and equipment.
- Climb trees for limbing or topping using spikes/belts/ropes.
- Lift, carry, push, pull, and drag tree limbs/branches/brush and feed into brush chipper.
- Stand and walk up to 2 hours at a time.
- Working near or under high voltage energized power lines.
- Withstand heights up to 60 feet.
- Ability to work in conditions/areas which may include dust, pollen, smoke, noxious weeds, poison ivy, bees, and other insects.
- Must be able to write, read, and comprehend written and verbal job instructions/information.
- Drive and operate vehicles and equipment within DOT, OSHA, and manufacturer regulations.
