GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Provides educational leadership within one of Cedarcrest’s classrooms, ensuring an educational environment conducive to the students’ learning needs and supportive of staff team work within the program.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Directs and oversees the educational program of children within the assigned classroom.
▪ Plans and organizes the classroom routine to provide programming in accordance with the New Hampshire Rules for the Education of Children with Disabilities and the New Hampshire Curriculum Frameworks.
▪ Develops the IEP in consultation with other team members.
▪ Submits IEP information to the Director of Special Education.
▪ Develops and follows lesson plans.
▪ Plans classroom routines, activities and field trips with the input of Educational Assistants.
▪ Assures compliance of classroom staff with the lifting protocols.
▪ Assures that classroom staff complete charting in the Electronic Medical Record and goal documentation as required.
2. Coordinates the educational services for each student within the classroom.
▪ Remains current on the student’s educational and medical status.
▪ Assists in the educational assessments of each student as basis of IEP/Total Plan of Care.
▪ Develops goals for students within the classroom that foster the students’ highest level of independence.
▪ Works closely with therapy staff to assure integration of the components of the child’s program.
▪ Integrates the various therapeutic programs into the overall school day, for each student, balancing the variety of program needs into an integrated program.
▪ Oversees the implementation of specific programs within the classroom and assures that data collection, completes quarterly reports in a timely way for all students within the room.
▪ Assists in the development, implementation and continual monitoring of the educational program for each student in the classroom.
▪ Completes assessments as required for the DLM.
▪ Feeds and changes students when staffing or program necessitates following established protocols.
▪ Participates in the planning and implementation of transitions of students into and from the classroom as well as to and from the facility.
3. Participates in meetings about the students and/or their programs.
▪ Participates in annual and quarterly meetings, providing information to assist in establishing/modifying programs to provide an appropriate educational and habilitative program.
▪ Takes leadership role in Ed-Therapy meetings
▪ Plans and facilitates classroom team meetings.
▪ Participates in teachers’ and departmental meetings.
▪ Participates in staff development activities as outlined in the current New Hampshire standards to maintain certification.
4. Maintains a positive and safe classroom environment.
▪ Models and encourages appropriate social exchanges of children and staff.
▪ Assists in the recruitment, training, supervision and performance reviews of staff within the classroom.
▪ Trains and provides support and guidance to other staff or volunteers assigned to the classroom.
▪ Works in a professional manner with all other disciplines and follows recommendations and protocols as established by nursing and therapies.
▪ Reports all concerns and questions to the appropriate staff and assists in the resolution of concerns within the classroom.
▪ Reports any concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
▪ Assures communication of program information/changes about residents to the residential staff.
▪ Maintains communication log or book for day students and residents.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Special Education is required, with a Master’s degree preferred. Candidates must be certified in Special Education by the NH Department of Education, with an Intellectual Disability Certification preferred. A General Special Education License (K-12) is also required.
Salary : $64,480 - $80,000
