CentraState Medical Center is seeking a Lead Pharmacy Technician. The Lead Pharmacy Technician provides quality pharmaceutical services to patients, physicians, nurses and other health professionals in accordance with established professional standards. Assists Pharmacy Manager with daily operations.
Responsibilities
- Operational (40%)
- Prepares patient specific medications to be ready for dispensing in a timely and accurate manner within established department standards.
- Prepares and delivers medications for the automated dispensing cabinets and for the floor stock process.
- Prepares medication kits and crash cart trays.
- Prepares Controlled Substance for patient specific and ADC replenishment.
- Delivers medications and education packets in a timely, accurate and professional manner.
- Answers phones and window requests in a timely and customer focused manner.
- Utilizes appropriate aseptic technique to batch and prepare patient specific IV medications.
- Aseptically prepares Anti-Neoplastics, Immune Modulators and other hazardous medications in the appropriate IV room and hood.
- Assists pharmacists in obtaining patient medication histories. (Not implemented at this time.)
- Inventory Management / Repackaging (20%)
- Assists with the appropriate ordering and the rotation of medications to minimize carrying costs and unnecessary waste.
- Repackages and batches medication in a timely and accurate manner.
- Conducts Cycle Counts and checks expiration dates via Logistics and the Carousel System.
- Orders medications and supplies as a backup to the Materials Coordinator.
- Quality / Performance Improvement (10%)
- Actively participates in quality and performance improvement initiatives in the department with an emphasize on Medication Safety.
- Assists the Pharmacists, Lead Pharmacists and Assistant Managers with operational needs and projects.
- Completes all mandatory and department competency and training modules.
- Regulatory / Professional Standards (10%)
- Complies with regulatory and professional standards.
- Provides recommendations on improvement in this area.
- Follows all USP requirements associated with Pharmacy.
- Leadership (20%)
- Promotes engagement, teamwork and is a role model for the staff.
- Works with the Lead Pharmacists and Assistant Managers to identify opportunities for improvement, assist in remediation and implementation.
- Orients and trains new and current technicians.
- Monitors operations to ensure compliance.
- Focused areas of responsibility included but not limited to: IV preparation, Carousel / ADC workflow, medication storage and delivery.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 3 years of Hospital Pharmacy experience preferred
- Pharmacy Technician License in the state of New Jersey
PTCB or NHA required.
Strong professional, organizational and interpersonal skills to effectively relate with all members of the healthcare team and patients.
Strong listening and speaking skills to provide excellent customer service.
Efficient in Microsoft Word® and Excel®.
