Summary
The Payroll Analyst is responsible for providing the Controller – Payroll Group with advanced support in payroll/pension processing for current and former employees.
Essential Duties
- Process the new hire paperwork including setting up employee profiles in Inova.
- Assist employees and department representatives with entries in Inova.
- Review Inova data during Payroll Processing.
- Responsible for balancing deductions during Payroll Processing.
- Review the employee reimbursement/Court Reporter data prior to importing into Inova
- Processing the final pay for separated employees.
- Responsible to prepare and process garnishments.
- Processing of donated sick time.
- Maintain payroll spreadsheets.
- Assist in processing Pension/Refunds for retirees.
- Prepare and maintain refund/vesting packets.
- Act as back-up for monthly pension processing including refunds.
- Assist with employee updates (direct deposit, W-4, Tax Changes, after tax deductions, etc.) in Inova.
- Responsible for answering payroll/pension phone inquiries.
- Responsible for responding to, saving, and archiving payroll department emails.
- Perform other duties, tasks and special projects, as required, independently
Qualifications/Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- Three years or more of job-related experience and/or training.
- Ability to learn and use various software packages and work with minimal supervision.
- Intermediate-level accounting and bookkeeping skills.
- Ability to use office machines (fax, copier, calculator, etc.).
- Strong organizational- and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team and proceed with objectives.
- Able to communicate/collaborate with co-workers.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Accurate and detail-oriented with strong verbal and written communication.
- Ability to maintain a positive public image for the department and County
- Flexible, with an ability to carry multiple tasks to completion
- Able to use common sense judgement to carry out written or verbal instructions.
- Exhibits a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn new tasks.
- Professionalism, integrity, and honesty with an ability to handle confidential matters.
- Associates degree from an accredited college or university.
- Four or more years of job-related experience, strongest preference for nonprofit roles.
- Understanding of PA Act 96 pension law.
- Strong understanding of DOL rules, IRS/Tax laws.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have:
- Intermediate Office Suite Skills, (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Explorer).
- Basic Outlook Skills (email and calendar)
- PeopleSoft Financial skills or the ability to learn PeopleSoft
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. Occasionally, the employee will need to stand; walk; reach above shoulder height; bend at the waist or work bent at the waist; and lift or carry items. On rare occasions, the employee will need to climb stairs.
