Non rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Overview
The Public Works Technician I for Signs and Markings is responsible for installations, removals and maintenance of pavement markings, installing and replacing new stripes with striping machine, maintenance of equipment, trucks and inventory. Work with team to safely set up Traffic Control Plans.
Responsibilities
- Obey all traffic laws while operating fleet vehicle and equipment from one location to another. Follow all City policies. Able to operate on even or uneven terrain such as streets and earthen rights-of-way. Perform daily pre/post-trip inspections on all types of equipment and vehicles
- Follow the Traffic control standard as per the Texas MUTCD Work Zone Traffic Control Guide; Direct traffic control at jobsite by flagging, cones, barrel and barricades
- Knowledgeable on setting up message boards, water barriers, type I, II, II Barricade during normal and emergency operations
- Operates sign and marking truck, replacing and removing traffic signs; collect field data as requested
- Install/ replace crosswalk, speed bump markings, stop bars, arrows, layouts of parking lots, painting curbs and other street marking
- Operate eradicator, propane torch, and stripping machine; may operate forklift, pallet jack, and table saw
- Perform routine inspections, maintenance of equipment, keep inventory of signs, hardware and tools
- Operate small power and hand tools
- Responds to after hours and weekend emergencies; Must work under emergency responses during and or after any city emergency event; all employees will work on-call duty rotation schedule and must be able to work different rotation shift under emergency responses
- Perform with a professional and be able to lead a team, if needed
- Keep materials stocked in vehicles assigned and communicate when supply/ materials are low
- Ability to work in high traffic areas, confined spaces and/ or elevated conditions; able evaluate safe work conditions and proficient in decision making
- Able to communicate with internal and external customers and maintain professionalism under any conditions
- Proper communication with the foreman, work coordinator, planner/ scheduler, and assistant director when given a request
- Complete daily reports and work orders that are legible
- May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Requires High School Diploma/ GED
- No prior experience required
- Certification in Traffic Control & Flagging (acquire within 6 months of hire)
- A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating
Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
