Job Summary
The City of Fort Collins is seeking a Building Inspector to join our Community Development and Neighborhood Services Department. This is a full time salaried position with the City with an anticipated hiring salary range of $73,732-$83,247 a year! The Building Inspector is responsible for ensuring that construction projects within the community comply with local building codes, zoning regulations, and safety standards. This role involves conducting inspections of residential, commercial, and public structures at various stages of construction or renovation, identifying code violations, issuing permits, and preparing detailed reports. The inspector works closely with contractors, property owners, and city officials to address issues and ensure that projects meet health, safety, and structural integrity requirements. Additionally, the position may involve reviewing building plans, providing guidance on compliance, and contributing to the enhancement of the community’s overall infrastructure and development goals. The ideal candidate will have a Colorado Journeyman or master's license in the plumbing field, and a valid driver’s license. Building inspection ICC certificates would be preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.
- Inspects residential, commercial, industrial, and other properties to ensure that plumbing, electrical, mechanical and structural requirements are met.
- Examines site and/or construction plans for conformance with City building codes.
- Observes conditions and investigates complaints regarding City building code violations; issues notices for corrections to parties responsible for conformance.
- Obtains evidence and prepares reports concerning violations which have not been corrected.
- Interprets legal requirements and recommends compliance procedures to contractors, developers, craftworkers, and owners.
- Responds to inquiries or complaints regarding City building codes, regulations and ordinances.
- Keeps inspection records and prepares reports for use by administrative or judicial authorities.
- Conducts surveys of existing properties to determine lack of proscribed maintenance, housing violations, lack of zoning compliance, or hazardous conditions.
- Locates property owners to explain nature of inspection, investigation findings and discuss how to resolve problems.
- Issues official enforcement documents such as correction notices, stop work orders, summonses to court, etc.

Experience Requirements
- 5 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certifications/Licenses/Specialized Training
