Compensation — Varies based on education level
Enrolled in High School: $17.59
Enrolled as a freshman or sophomore in a college or university: $19.00/hour
Enrolled as a junior or senior in a college or university: $20.55/hour
Enrolled in a graduate program: $24.04/hour
The principal function of this class is to provide a learning opportunity to students interested in working in a public service field. This position can include analytical and administrative services in support of department and city-wide programs and projects related to a student's area of study. Incumbents, as assigned by position and supervisor may be responsible for performing project research and recommendations; preparing information and/or supporting documents for meetings or projects; maintaining databases; providing technical assistance; participating in community outreach; and facilitating internal and/or external customer service. This position will perform work under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor.This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the department.
- Receives and responds to assigned internal and external customer inquiries and information requests.
- Researches, analyzes, troubleshoots, and provides information and support related to functional area of assignment under close supervision of an assigned supervisor.
- Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems.
- Attends meetings, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas
- Answer multi-line telephone and direct calls to appropriate personnel and take accurate messages.
- Greet the public, provide information and assistance regarding schedules, program descriptions, and other general information over the phone and in person.
- Assist the public with program enrollment by signing participants up for programs, memberships, receipting money, and performing related registration procedures.
- Create a positive experience for customers through professional and courteous behavior.
- 1 - 2 evening and/or weekend Cashier and Concessions shift.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
• Some experience in recreation, sports, and arts and crafts; or
• Any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Requirements
• Must complete and pass criminal background check
• Must be at least 16 years of age by time of hire
• Must be able lift 50lbs
Bilingual incentive pay available
Preference may be given to candidates who are bilingual in Spanish/English and bilingualism is our ideal as opportunities for community engagement abound. Employees who can demonstrate the ability to speak Spanish, or any language spoken by over ten percent (10%) of City residents as documented by the most recent U.S. Census, at a proficiency level determined by a fluency test administered by the City, will receive a monthly premium of three percent (3%) of their regular base pay.
