What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance and Operations Crew Supervisor position at City of Richmond?
The City of Richmond Department of Public Works Transportation Engineering Division is seeking a highly qualified candidate to fill the position of Maintenance and Operations Crew Supervisor. The incumbent is responsible for providing oversight of various City sign maintenance tasks as well as supervising the work of assigned Maintenance and Operations Crew Chiefs, and Maintenance Technician, Seniors for the Sign shop division.
- Directing, supervising, evaluating, and performing work performed by assigned crew.
- Coordinating training and providing guidance, feedback, and training to crew members.
- Implementing hiring, terminating, and disciplinary actions related to staffing matters.
- Directing workflow and developing maintenance schedules.
- Investigating and working to resolve citizen concerns and complaints.
- Participating in long range planning for the Sign Division.
- Developing strategies and implementing decisions about the acquisition and use of equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Ensuring inventory levels are managed and monitored efficiently.
- Coordinating with contractors, vendors, and other service providers regarding resources.
- Monitoring Work orders and Service request daily.
- Performing other related duties as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED
- Two (2) years of experience in the assigned area
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
- Five (5) or more years of sign maintenance and repair experience;
- Two (2) or more years of experience operating as a crew supervisor or lead;
- Knowledge of general maintenance procedures and practices.
LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record;
- A valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license;
- A valid Commonwealth of Virginia commercial driver's license (CDL)

The working conditions may include frequent exposure to hazardous physical conditions and hazardous materials; occasional exposure to atmospheric conditions, extreme temperatures, intense noise, travel outside the organization's location, and environmental hazards. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
