Position Description
The City of Seattle’s Department of Finance & Administrative Services (FAS) is seeking qualified applicants for an Accounting Specialist position in the Consumer Protection Division (CPD). The successful candidate will work in all aspects of accounting including researching, applying and reconciling payments, processing vouchers and ledgers, false alarm invoicing, and assisting the Accounting Tech III with various projects.

Job Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires two (2) years of accounting and/or bookkeeping experience or one year’s work experience as an Accounting Technician I.
(Or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class.)
The Most Successful Candidates Will Possess The Following
This position requires a minimum of three days per week of onsite work. Overtime work may be required based on business needs. Alternative Work Arrangements and hybrid telework schedules for work conducted in a normal office environment may be considered and will be based on operational needs and consistency with City policies.
Additional Information
This position is classified as an Accounting Technician II-BU. It is Civil Service represented, FLSA non-exempt and is eligible for overtime. The full range for this step-progression position is $33.78 - $37.82 per hour.

Job Responsibilities
- Perform duties associated with the reconciliation, balancing or processing of vouchers, ledgers, journals, reports and statements.
- Coordinate, prepare, and reviews reports, transactions statements, summaries, and other documents.
- Receives and posts STORM payments including: Medallions, Short Term Rentals and limousine inspections in Accela.
- Research and resolve billing inquiries and account and budget information requested by the department or public.
- Assists with the Wheelchair Accessible Services Fund management involving both accounts payable and receivable.
- Research and reconcile False Alarm accounts, identify and apply payments in PeopleSoft,submit requests for appeals or fee waivers, and issue refunds where appropriate.
- Validate reimbursement requests for RV disposal under the public impound contract and process Junk Vehicle Affidavits.
- Audit quarterly Private Property Impound Towing reports.
- Create and code invoices for manager signature.
- Assist in the implementation of new accounting procedures and methods.
- Engage in written and verbal correspondence with constituents in the transportation and other industries.
- Order division office supplies and prioritize WMBE vendors, coordinates building service requests with property management.
- Serve as notary public as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires two (2) years of accounting and/or bookkeeping experience or one year’s work experience as an Accounting Technician I.

The Most Successful Candidates Will Possess The Following
- Must be competent in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Experience with or the demonstrated ability to learn programs currently in use by CPD in this role, including PeopleSoft, Accela, Kubra, and STORM.
- Demonstrated ability to take on new accounting related roles and duties.
