The Systems Engineer III will manage the City’s network which includes cloud networking and leading a team of network engineers. The candidate will work with various members of the Infrastructure and Operations, Cybersecurity, and Enterprise Architect teams to outline strategy, implementation, and daily operations of the network. Some key responsibilities for this role include performing network assessments, developing network architecture, providing network design and protocols, and documenting compliance and governance documentation related to best practices for the City of Virginia Beach network.
The successful candidate will:
- Manage a team that has day to day support of the network
- Development and maintenance of network architecture
- Work with Enterprise Architecture Team on overall roadmap for the network
- Oversee daily operations related to:
- Physical and virtual network connections to the data center
- Network monitoring and analysis
- Design, engineer, and implement MPLS, optical equipment and services
- Management of MPLS and optical fiber networks
- Implementation, installation, and maintenance of City networks and firewalls
- Work closely with the cloud fusion team for further modernization of the cloud
- Ability to utilize orchestration platforms to automate the deployment/maintenance of cloud solutions
Additional Skillsets:
- 6 or more years of engineering, network engineering, or related work experience
- Strong technical background, CCNA/CCNP certification preferred
- Strong working knowledge of cloud platforms, cloud networking architecture, firewalls and security
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to translate and build technical requirements into systems architecture
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, management information systems, business, or closely related field
CJIS/PREA Disclaimer: This position will provide direct support to the City’s Public Safety departments and will have physical access to public safety buildings and/or access to confidential and sensitive public safety databases. As such, and in compliance with federal regulations and guidelines, City of Virginia Beach IT staff and contractors must receive a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) and may require a Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) criminal background clearance prior to employment and annually thereafter while employed or under contract with the City of Virginia Beach. Automatic disqualifiers related to the CJIS and PREA criminal background checks apply, including but not limited to, US Citizenship and/or minimum ten (10) years US Residency requirements.
