Job Summary
Coalition for the Homeless is seeking a Donor Relations Manager to strengthen relationships with donors and support our fundraising efforts. This role involves implementing strategies to increase individual giving, managing donor communications, and developing creative stewardship plans to thank and recognize contributors. Working closely with our development team, the Donor Relations Manager will play a vital part in ensuring our fundraising goals align with our mission to support individuals experiencing homelessness.
Responsibilities
- The Donor Relations Manager plays a crucial role in implementing and presenting individual donor relations strategies with input from the development team. This position requires a high degree of independence, exceptional multitasking skills, and the ability to align projects with the Coalition’s mission. The ideal candidate will assist in setting goals and strategies to increase donations while maintaining and building strong relationships with donors and prospects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Donor Engagement:
- Implement donor relations activities as part of the broader development plan.
- Engage directly with donors to build and maintain relationships.
- Tracking and Stewardship:
- Ensure tracking of donor relations activities.
- Develop and implement stewardship plans to thank and recognize donors effectively.
- Strategic Contributions:
- Contribute to direct response plans and recommend strategies to improve program results.
- Coordinate with staff, consultants, and vendors to broaden the donor base.
- Monthly and Planned Giving Programs:
- Promote and manage the organization’s monthly giving program.
- Promote and track planned gifts.
- Data Management and Research:
- Assist with research on donor prospects.
- Support data entry related to individual donor giving.
- Marketing and Campaigns:
- Work with the Development Director to implement e-marketing and social media campaigns focused on individual giving.
- Administrative Support:
- Assist with administrative tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge or experience in donor relations, fundraising, or nonprofit development preferred.
- Proficiency in donor databases and tracking systems is a plus.
Education
- Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, fundraising, or a related field required.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in development and fundraising within a nonprofit environment.
- At least 3 years of intermediate to advanced experience with Donor Perfect database software.
- Proven track record of 5 years of successful fundraising and donor cultivation strategies.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Demonstrated expertise in moves management with a proven record of success.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly self-motivated and able to work independently while also being an effective team member.
- Exceptional project management, organizational, and time management abilities, including the capacity to prioritize and manage multiple projects, ensuring quality and meeting deadlines.
- Deep understanding of private philanthropy and its role in nonprofit organizations, as well as comprehensive knowledge of resource development practices.
- Additional Requirements:
- Availability to work evenings at least twice annually.
- Proven ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion, particularly when managing donations from board members, the Executive Director, and staff.
