Outreach Program Coordinator (Office on Youth & Human Services): Provides community-based outreach to include harm reduction education, prevention, treatment and recovery of substance use disorders. Position assigned to Office on Youth/Human Services division and reports to Office on Youth & Human Services Administrator.
- Plans, organizes, coordinates, and conducts community outreach, workshops, activities and community presentations.
- Provides education to prevent the use and misuse of drugs and the development of substance use disorders.
- Provides harm reduction education to limit the risks and harms of unsafe drug use.
- Coordinates services with local agencies and other organizations for community resources for individuals seeking help for substance use issues.
- Analyzes and interprets data to identify trends and patterns in substance misuse within the community.
- Works collaboratively with diverse community stakeholders.
- Assesses community need for drug and alcohol prevention programs.
- Develops educational and practical support resources.
- Assists with grant administration processes to include submission, tracking, and reporting requirements.
- Develops and maintains relationships with community organizations and internal and external stakeholders.
- Serves on assigned teams, task forces, boards and committees that are aligned with prevention, harm reduction, and development of resources.
- Addresses public inquiries providing accurate information or referring inquiries to appropriate personnel.
- Other duties as assigned.
- A Bachelor’s Degree and at least three years directly related experience or, a Master’s Degree with at least two years of directly related experience or, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Valid Virginia driver’s license.
- Demonstrated experience developing and managing an outreach program related to the opioid crisis and/or the prevention of substance use disorders is desirable.
- General knowledge of behavioral health and human services related to the opioid epidemic.
- An understanding of and experience in opioid or substance use prevention, treatment resources, harm reduction and recovery strategies.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with a diverse population.
- Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships within and across departments, government officials, community partners, businesses, citizens and the community.
- Ability to be accountable and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
- Ability to research, learn, interpret, understand, apply and communicate information, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills required; must have a clear and open communication style.
- Strong leadership, organizational and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and with a team.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices and processes involved in budgeting and grant writing, administration and reporting.
- Ability to interpret, apply and explain a variety of rules, policies and procedures.
- Individual must have excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, with frequent interruptions while remaining organized and accurate.
- Strong computer proficiency especially with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), software applications, database management and spreadsheet applications necessary.
- Ability to prepare and present reports.
- Address public inquiries and providing accurate information or referring inquiries to appropriate personnel.
The work is generally performed in an office environment. Typically, the employee may sit to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, stooping, carrying of light items such as papers, books, or small parts, or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
Work EnvironmentThe work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions. Use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals are minimally required.
