What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Manager position at Confidential?
Overview
This position will report to the president and play a crticial role in ensuring our operations in both the USA and overseas operate at maximum efficiency. The duties outlined below should be considered just a starting point for what this position can become. If the new hire can show peform these responsibilites to a high level this postion will play a large role in the company's future sucess, which would lead to unlimited advanacement opportunities in both title and compensation. Specific industry experience is not a requirement. The essemtial traits for this position are: 1) detail oriented and highly organized, 2) strong work ethic and ability to deal with changing and challenging circumstances, 3) high intelligence and ability to identify weaknesses in systems and procedures and then implement necessary improvements, and 4) willingness to travel occassionally 2-3 times per year.
Responsibilities
- Production Tracking: Updating and completing dates from the production tracking e-mails to instruct overseas QC and PD staff on relevant photos we need to be provided to review each stage of the production process on each order. Thoroughly review the production photos received from our overses staff for each order. Any potential issues should be notes and follow up communication sent to the relevant overseas staff to make sure that those issues are fully resolved. Send daily e-mail to overseas staff on the areas needed due to be reviewed on that date.
- Operations Issues Solutions and Follow Up: In this duty, whenever there is a problem, this production managerwill be responsible for gathering all relevant info. and puts together a draft of response for review and approval by salesperson responsible for particular customer. For example, if there was a quality issue on a bed produced by a customer, then that message would be immediately forwarded onto the Production Manager. The Production Manager would then be responsible for analyzing the problem, gathering the necessary information to best resolve or minimize the problem, and then creating an initial draft for review before that response being sent to the customer. The Production Manager would then be responsible for following up with company staff and our supplier factories to make sure the issue is fully resolved. In addition to customer issues, the Production Manager could offer valuable help to follow up on order delays to understand their impact and how best minimize any delays and the issues created, product liability claims that may come up on occassion, etc. (This area of responsibility will require a considerable amount of assistance from other staff until the Production Manager can become familiar with the company's operations and how to access relevant information and resolve the issues independently.)
- Overseas travel: 2 to 3 times per year to Vietnam. The first few trips would overlap with President or Director of Operations and act as training for future independent trips. The main purposes of these trips would be to: 1) review and inspect production to ensure it meets the customers' quality requirements, review any product samples to make sure they meet customer requirements, and meet with staff to review processes and make any necessary improvements, and meet with management of our current factories to ensure smooth cooperation and resolve any issues, and review and evaluate potential new factories.
- Process and System Analysis: Continually evaluate our processes and systems to idenify ways we can improve them to avoid problems in the first place and/or make the company more efficient. The idea would be for the Production Manager to focus on one area at a time. The Production Manager would first investigate and document to the process by communicating with all individuals involved to in order to fully understand how that area is currently handled. The focus will be on identifying inefficiencies or inconsistentes that could cause problems, and then recommend the changes to minimize future problems and allow the company to operate at top efficiency. (Examples - Examine our processes on load plans to see what we are currently doing and determine how we can improve our processes to ensure we maximize each container load while also minimizing the time that inaccurate carton or container size estimates or additions of customer samples lead to inaccurate customer load plans. // Review current PD software and process to make the system more efficient and effective as well as the system more user friendly. // Examine our current QC proceedures to make sure understand fully what each QC staff member does at each factory and how their work is managed through meetings and direct oversight by the QC manager, etc.
- New Customer Investigation: Assist executive team with investigations of new customers (find buyer contact information, conduct market research, do comp. store shopping, and customer research, etc.)
- Backup company operations manager in the following important areas when the Operations Manager is out of the office - Maintaining Product Development Software, use software to create ocean shipping container load plans for orders, and approve carton printing and labels for orders
Experience
- Proven experience in a management role within a manufacturing, wholesale, or logistics business.
- Associate or Bachelor Degree
- Effective communication skills to collaborate effectively with staff in USA and overseas and customers.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team effectively.
- Strong problem-solving abilities with a focus on operational efficiency and quality control.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
