Currituck County seeks a proactive self-directed professional to join its team as Assistant County Manager. The position works collaboratively with the County Manager and department heads to implement the goals, objectives, and policies established by the Board of Commissioners. The position holds executive-level responsibility for day-to-day management and long-term planning within the assigned department portfolio. The ideal candidate will have significant local government experience and a demonstrated passion for public service.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supports the County Manager on planning and development of programs to achieve the goals and objectives defined by the Board of County Commissioners.
- Assists in planning, coordinating and directing the work of county departments and programs.
- Assists in development and administration of the annual budget.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other governmental agencies, civic and community groups, businesses, and citizens.
- Represents the county’s interests in working with a broad range of stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in public or business administration, political science, or related field and five to eight years of experience in a local government setting; or any combination of comparable education, training, and experience which demonstrates the required skills and knowledge to perform the duties of the position.

- Ability to exercise considerable independent judgment and discretion in establishing, applying and interpreting policies and procedures
- Competence in organizing, directing, and evaluating the work of diverse teams
- Excellent communication, both written and oral, with ability to maintain tact, courtesy, and empathy
Familiarity with organization and functions of county government; Strong creative, analytical, and critical thinking skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize work and delegate duties as appropriate
- Ability to maintain confidential information
