Legal Assistant – Immigration Law Firm
Delgado Law Firm is an Immigration Law Firm dedicated to providing compassionate and zealous legal services. We are seeking a top candidate for a Bilingual Legal Assistant position. This position offers the opportunity to manage your own caseload under the supervision of an experienced attorney. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and have a passion for helping clients navigate the complex immigration process. As a Legal Assistant, you will work on a variety of immigration cases, including naturalization, family-based cases, and humanitarian-based cases. You will manage cases from start to finish, providing critical support to ensure timely and accurate submission of applications and petitions.
Responsibilities:
- Case Management:
- Manage your own caseload under the supervision of the attorney.
- Handle all stages of immigration cases, from opening case files to case closure.
- Work directly with clients to gather necessary information and documents for their cases.
- Prepare and complete application and petition packets for submission to relevant government agencies. Submit packets upon final approval by attorney.
- Prepare, submit and review FOIA requests.
- Obtain necessary records from relevant government agencies.
- Client Communication:
- Maintain regular communication with clients to keep them informed of their case status.
- Provide excellent customer service by working closely with clients and completing cases in a timely, reasonable manner.
- Respond to client inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Assist clients in translating documents and correspondence as needed.
- Ensure a high level of client satisfaction by addressing concerns and providing clear guidance throughout the case process.
- Agency Interaction:
- Proficient with outside agencies such as USCIS, NVC, DOS, and other governmental bodies to obtain case updates or information.
- Utilize Software:
- Update case status and manage documentation using MyCase and Cerenade software systems or similar legal software.
- Run case reports to track deadlines, case progress, and other important information.
- Administrative Tasks:
- Perform administrative tasks such as document preparation, organizing and filing files, and scheduling meetings.
- Meet with the supervising attorney regularly to monitor case progress and ensure all tasks are on track.
- Confidentiality & Compliance:
- Maintain confidentiality of client information and adhere to all ethical and professional standards.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant immigration laws, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate degree or equivalent experience.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year working at an immigration law firm with a proven track record of case management.
Interviews will be conducted in Spanish and selected candidates will be tested for proficiency and a written assessment will be performed.
Skills:
- Fluent in both English and Spanish (written and spoken).
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Teams, and OneDrive.
- 40 WPM typing skills.
- Experience with immigration software (MyCase and Cerenade experience is preferred).
- Familiarity with USCIS, NVC, DOS, the U Visa portals/bulletin.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently while managing multiple cases.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to work directly with clients.
- Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and ethics.
- Knowledge of the immigration process and the ability to handle cases from start to finish.
- Ability to perform research and gather necessary documents from governmental agencies.
- Proficient in using office equipment and computer systems.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, a compassionate attitude, and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and clients.
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating grit and creative problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail is a must.
