Domestic Violence Project, Inc. is seeking a Peer Support Specialist.
The Peer Support Specialist provides emotional support to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and stalking while protecting their privacy and maintaining professional boundaries. Provides group facilitation and individualized service through coaching, coordination of care, referrals, and follow up.
Schedule: 10a-6pm. Monday-Friday
Wage: $19.00/hr.
Essential Functions:
- Offer group education sessions focused on issues relevant to domestic violence.
- Facilitate in-house support group sessions.
- Model life skills, promote hope and empowerment.
- Contact each new admission within 5 business days.
- Provide coaching for individual program participants; develop strategies to reduce self-stigma; assist in development of goals and objectives; monitor and discuss progress.
- Document activities accurately and timely as required by DVPI and its funders.
- Report unusual activity and incidents following established chain of command.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with internal partners, local mental health agencies, child protective services, child counseling agencies, court systems, local community support and outreach groups.
- Deliver comprehensive case management services for non-resident program participants.
- Participate in case reviews and contribute to overall program evaluation, improvements, and planning.
Other Functions:
- Accept incoming calls placed to 24-hour hotline; provide crisis intervention, verbal safety planning, initial shelter assessment, and appropriate referrals; may include but is not limited to coordinating services with other community program partners.
- Complete in-service training and professional development activities mandated by DVPI and its funders.

Experience and Education:
- Self-identified survivor of domestic violence.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in coaching and group facilitation; trauma-informed care.
- Case management experience.
- Associate’s degree in human services or related field; (equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree).
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 90 days of hire.
- Peer Support certification through State of Ohio within 6-12 months of hire.
- ·Available and willing to work some evenings and weekends, as well as occasional on-call shifts.
- Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license with less than six points, and proof of automobile insurance, adhering to the minimum requirements of Ohio’s Financial Responsibility Act.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in an indoor environment. Involves risks or discomforts that require safety precautions typical of an office or home setting, including the need for safe workplace practices, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations.
Performing the daily duties of this job requires seeing, hearing, reading, writing, and verbally communicating in English; operating a computer and standard office equipment; climbing stairs, sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching; occasional climbing, squatting, pushing, pulling, lifting objects up to 25 pounds and carrying them distances of up to 100 ft.
