PAYROLL SPECIALIST
Division: Scintilla dba ESCO Group
Location: Marion
Reports to: Accounting Manager
Exempt or Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt
Status: Full-Time
Typical Working Hours: 7:30am to 4:30pm
May be required to work extended hours including holidays and weekends due to the 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year type of service ESCO provides its clients.
Synopsis:
The Payroll Specialist is a support position within the accounting structure of ESCO Group. This position is best described as a payroll resource. Work executed will be for a multi-discipline accounting team. This position requires knowledge of accounting principles.
Background and Work Experience:
To be considered, candidates should have:
- Completion of an Associate’s degree program in accounting or related discipline from an accredited college, technical school, or university and two years or more of related work or industry experience; or
- A combination of equivalent education and or experience will be considered with solid evidence of success.
- Demonstrated experience processing payroll and reports for Bargaining Unit Employees
- Demonstrated understanding of accounting principles.
- Demonstrated to be highly proficient with computer technologies including but not limited to, Windows Operating Systems, and the use of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Preferred:
- Experience using Acumatica or other accounting software.
Responsibilities and Duties:
The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Setup and maintain employee files.
- Compile payroll data such as hours worked, taxes, insurance, and union dues to be withheld, and employee identification number from time sheets and other reports.
- Computes wages and deductions; posts to payroll records.
- Review wages computed and corrects errors to ensure accuracy of payroll.
- Maintain/update employee master payroll records with changes affecting net wages. (i.e. exemptions, insurance, and loan payments).
- Records data concerning transfer of employees between departments.
- Prepare periodic earnings, taxes and deduction reports.
- Keeps records of leave pay and nontaxable wages.
- Prepare and issue paychecks.
- Maintain/update Union Pay Rates as needed.
- Prepares monthly union reports.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll reports.
- Assist in identifying team goals and be a key participant in achieving team goals.
- Be a key driver of process improvement for the ERC.
- Utilize, support, and enhance ESCO’s standards and best practices.
- Understand and follow all safety, conduct, and policy requirements established by ESCO and clients.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned or deemed necessary by management.

Travel Required:
This position does not generally require overnight travel. Some daily travel may be required to other office locations, training, and seminars.
