The Safety Manager is a critical role within EWSU, dedicated to fostering a safe and compliant work environment. This position involves developing and implementing comprehensive safety policies and procedures, conducting regular audits, and providing training to staff. The Safety Manager ensures compliance with OSHA, HAZMAT, and other safety regulations to reduce risks and improve operational efficiency.

Roles & Responsibilities:




Develop and maintain safety manuals, chemical hygiene plans, and emergency response protocols

Ensure compliance with OSHA, HAZMAT, HAZCOM, IOSHA, Evansville Municipal Code, Indiana Code, and Code of Federal Regulations

Regular job site inspections and hazard assessments will be conducted, with actionable recommendations for risk mitigation

Training programs covering hazardous material handling, machinery use, and emergency response will be designed and delivered

Lead monthly safety meetings across departments and investigate workplace incidents to determine root causes and recommend preventive measures

Maintain detailed records of all safety-related events and develop a Hazardous Materials Business Plan while coordinating emergency response plans with relevant departments

Staying current with HAZMAT and OSHA guidelines is essential, as is preparing and presenting safety data and reports to management and regulatory agencies.




Requirements:




A bachelor’s degree in health and safety, industrial hygiene, or a related field is preferred

The candidate must know HAZMAT, HAZWOPER, OSHA 10/30, and other relevant safety management practices. A certification such as Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) is preferred

Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills are required

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is necessary
Experience in the water or wastewater industry is highly desirable.

Possess effective communication skills and the ability to work with employees at all levels

Attention to detail and the capability to manage multiple priorities are essential

Must demonstrate the ability to develop proactive safety measures and foster a culture of safety
