Job Description
We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Controller to join our team. You will play a vital role in maintaining business finances on a day to day basis, supported by an long-term external bookkeeper and our existing tax team. You will ensure the information provided to these partners is accurate, organized, and comprehensive. You will manage AR/AP, subconsultant invoice tracking, expense reports and receipts oversight for all employees, payroll, contracts, invoicing, and small team HR (employee contracts, approving PTO, reviewing time sheets, on-boarding new employee paperwork, etc). We operate three integrated LLCs inside our office, so maintaining cost tracking between three independent sets of books is essential.
Responsibilities of this Role
- Oversee and manage daily accounting functions including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, cash and banking, fixed assets and other transactions via Quickbooks
- Provide weekly AR/AP approvals to Principle via existing documented process for approvals and processing
- Continue to develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls and ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
- Manage client contract documents, administer subcontractor invoices, project cost tracking, bank draws, and other construction project documentation.
- Run payroll and coordinate benefits for a team of 15-20
- Oversee insurance coverage for all three entities operated in house to ensure appropriate coverage, renewals schedule, and maintenance of all related records.
- Prepare quarterly financial statements and other financial reports, make strategic recommendations to the executive team on opportunities for cost savings or improvements.
- Coordinate with tax accountant and external bookkeeper to provide all necessary documents, reports, receipts, and fixed asset records.
- Continuously seek and implement improvements to financial processes and systems, enhancing efficiency and accuracy.
- Various related accounting and finance tasks as assigned.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local legislation
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in Accounting or a related field. Design, real estate, or construction experience is a benefit, but not a requirement.
- Bachelor’s degree required, CPA preferred
- Proven proficiency with QuickBooks and Expensify. Experience in Click Up, Slack, and Google Workspace is a benefit.
- Detail oriented, strategic thinker with ability to challenge existing practices to become more effective, proposing and implementing solutions for the development of new or amended accounting systems, processes, and procedures
- Ability to exercise sound personal judgement in a variety of situations, with excellent verbal, written, administrative, and social communication skills
- Ability to work with equanimity under pressure to handle a wide variety of activities and confidential matters with discretion and a professional demeanor. Ability to adapt to a busy environment, comfortable with complexity.
- Ability to independently organize, plan and manage workload with appropriate communication about prioritization of tasks and realistic timelines for scheduling expectations.

Salary : $65,000 - $85,000
