ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION: Located just thirty minutes north of Baltimore, Genesee Valley is home to 150 acres of lakes, woods and farmland used for adventure, environmental and experiential education programs. We offer one to multiple-day programs for a diverse clientele, which include public and independent schools, college organizations, community groups, youth development programs, special needs populations, and adult non-profit organizations and for-profit corporations.

TYPE OF POSITION: Seasonal Full-time; on-call and part-time
JOB DESCRIPTION: Outdoor Experiential Educators/ Challenge Course Facilitators provide the opportunity for groups to safely recognize and reach their potential through team-building activities. Facilitators use initiatives, low ropes course and high ropes course elements to enhance self-confidence, promote positive group dynamics, expand problem-solving abilities, and increase levels of communication.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must:
- Enjoy working with all ages & diverse populations
- Be interested in teambuilding and leadership development for themselves and others. Be willing to to create a plan based on the needs of the group with the tools learned from training or prior experience.
- Willing to learn/work on a high ropes course, belay and do other physically demanding tasks
- Be mature and responsibly handle emergency situations and rescues
- Be willing to work with others and independently
- Enjoy the outdoors
- Be part and contribute to our fun-loving, open-minded and flexible community based around Genesee Valley’s mission statement
- Have a sense of humor
Experience is not necessary; a CPR certification or WFA/WFR preferred. Lifeguarding and prior challenge course experience is a plus. Candidates must be able to successfully complete a background check. Applicants must be at least 18 (by the start of the season). A college degree is preferred but not required.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee the physical and emotional safety and well being of participants at all times.
Safely and effectively execute programs including, planning, leading and debriefing activities, as well as properly maintaining gear and facilities.
Be available and prepared for other miscellaneous responsibilities such as maintenance, office support or other duties as the need arises.
COMPENSATION/BENEFITS: Base pay @ $100.00 based on experience; extensive technical and soft-skills training, and transferable teaching experience, housing available.
