Position Overview:
The Lead - Tempering Operator will perform a wide range of duties. This position requires the handling of glass and various other products related to the glass industry. As a Lead - Tempering Operator, you will play a vital role in processing different types and sizes of glass through the tempering furnace, perform tests to verify the product meets safety glazing standards and help oversee daily operations on the tempering furnace line.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure smooth and efficient operation of the tempering furnace for all heat-treated glass.
- Operate and monitor tempering furnace equipment, including startup, shutdown, and calibration.
- Ensure oven meets daily sq ft goals.
- Ensure Glass is processed to quality standards.
- Read, follow, and complete the daily production schedule for the tempering furnace.
- Monitor the tempering process, ensuring that temperatures, times, and cooling rates meet specifications.
- Lead and coordinate the tempering line crew to ensure efficient workflow and shift coverage.
- Inspect glass for quality issues and troubleshoot machine or process problems in real-time.
- Train new team members on proper procedures, safety protocols, and quality standards.
- Ensure compliance with production schedules, safety guidelines, and company policies.
- Communicate with supervisors, maintenance, and quality teams to resolve issues quickly.
- Stage and process glass to be heat treated as required.
- Process all orders to meet on time delivery.
- Follow all safety practices and procedures.
- Maintain an organized and clean work area at all times.
- Identify opportunities for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the tempering process.
Qualifications:
- Previous leadership or lead operator experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of furnace operation, heat settings, and glass handling.
- Ability to read and interpret production schedules and quality specifications.
- Excellent communication and team coordination skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
