What are the responsibilities and job description for the Guest Services Representative position at Great Lakes Aquarium?
Job Summary:
The Guest Service Representative is part of our dynamic customer service team. Team members work collaboratively and individually to assist visitors and perform day-to-day tasks to keep Great Lakes Aquarium running smoothly. Aspects of the job include but are not limited to:
- Ticketing: Selling tickets and memberships, provide general information, answer phone calls, opening and closing tasks, and any other duties as assigned.
- Retail: Gift store purchases, tagging new inventory, stocking inventory, light cleaning, and any other duties assigned.
- Parking: Parking booth sales, and parking lot control & safety.
- Events: Facilitate events including set up and take down. Events may include weddings, birthday parties, holiday parties, corporate events, etc. There are opportunities for bartending (for those who are aged 18 ) and animal encounters with guests as well.
*Guest services representatives are expected to perform all stated tasks and will rotate through all positions.
Required Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function listed above satisfactorily. Additionally, the requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
- Working knowledge of PCs and the internet
- Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to analyze and solve problems effectively
- Able to work in a team environment or individually with minimal to moderate supervision
- Successful completion of a background check (performed by Great Lakes Aquarium staff)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Past bartending experience
- Retail or customer service experience
- Weekday availability
Physical Requirements and/or Work Environment
The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires being on your feet for a long period of time. While performing the duties of this job, employees may be required to work both in indoor and outdoor settings and also may be required to lift boxes weighing 30 lbs or more. The individual is regularly required to communicate with staff and guests. The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting rate is $12.00/hr. After successfully completing 300 hours of work, staff will receive an automatic pay increase of $0.50/hr. Staff also have opportunities for promotion into lead positions and receive annual merit increases. This is a part-time position. Benefits include: Earned Sick and Safe Time in keeping with the City of Duluth's ordinance, free waterfront parking when space is available, discount on Aquarium programs and gift shop items, and free admission to the Aquarium.
