The Director of Human Resources will play a pivotal role in driving the team’s strategic HR initiatives to enhance organizational culture, foster employee engagement and support business goals. You will be a proactive leader with expertise in HR strategy, talent acquisition, employee relations and compliance. This role will focus on building a dynamic and inclusive workplace, supporting the organization’s mission and values to achieve excellence on and off the court.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic HR Leadership:

  • Develop and execute HR strategies aligned with the team’s business objectives, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Partner with senior leadership to identify workforce needs and implement solutions to attract, develop and retain top talent.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Oversee and provide guidance to members of the HR team, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Foster a collaborative environment that encourages professional growth and development.
  • Set performance expectations, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations for HR team members.

Talent Acquisition and Management:

  • Oversee recruitment strategies to attract diverse talent across basketball and business operations.
  • Implement robust onboarding programs to ensure seamless integration of new hires.
  • Lead succession planning and career development initiatives to nurture future leaders.

Employee Relations and Engagement:

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to employees and management on HR-related matters.
  • Design and implement initiatives to enhance employee engagement, satisfaction and retention.
  • Promote a culture of excellence and consistency through training, policies and programs.

Performance Management:

  • Drive the performance review process, setting clear expectations and fostering continuous feedback.
  • Align individual and team goals with the organization’s strategic priorities.

Culture and Organizational Development:

  • Lead initiatives to strengthen organizational culture and values.
  • Facilitate team-building activities and leadership development programs.

HR Operations and Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with Head of Benefits & Compensation Strategy manage HR systems and analytics to provide data-driven insights for decision-making.

Required Skills, Experience, and Abilities

To perform the job successfully, you should demonstrate the following competencies associated with the essential functions of this job.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • 8 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in sports, entertainment or a dynamic, fast-paced industry is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws, HR best practices and organizational development.
  • Proven ability to lead diverse teams and drive cultural change.
  • Strategic thinking with a results-oriented mindset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust and relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and inspire.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace culture.
  • Results-driven mindset with a commitment to delivering measurable business outcomes.
  • Adaptability and resilience in navigating complex projects and competing priorities.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic plans.
  • Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Asana, Jira).
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays
