Summary: Responsible for setting up, installing, repairing, and maintaining machinery, equipment and facilities. May be required to fabricate metal parts and tools.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities include the following:
Preventative Maintenance (PM) /Standardized Work:
· Perform preventative maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance (CM) to various types of equipment (including weld cells, weld fixtures and other process equipment) in Welding, Resistance and Secondary Operations to ensure PM’s are reviewed, approved, completed and closed on time.
· Support Tool Room on PM’s and provide suggestions to continuously improve PM schedules. Analyze, plan and record project time information on the work order. corrective and preventative maintenance.
· Demonstrate proficient use of production systems Kanban, Production Schedule, routers, labels and work instructions (first/last piece, SDS, fixture repair, containment, part rejects, and sort/scrap).
· Use machine controls to correctly operate equipment, maintaining and following parameters on the Welding Parameter Documents with the assistance of the Welding Engineer. Complete equipment changeovers for weld fixtures.
· Perform other duties as required to support production needs, including manual welding and assisting with design, build, installation and start-up of new or modified weld cells/fixtures.
Programming/Troubleshooting:
· Create and modify Fanuc robot programs, resistance / laser weld programs, while consistently maintaining the essential welding parameters. Analyze and determine proper weld/laser sequence for cycle time and part dimensions. Modify and create back-up files for robotic welding programs, maintaining essential weld parameters. Validate process parameters and enter system deviations when applicable.
· Modify torch angles, “stick-out”, approach to the weld, and other robotic/welding variables for optimal performance within Welding Parameter Documents. Select and exchange correct equipment for the appropriate machine. Modify and maintain programs for welding equipment/tooling to produce parts that meet print and part requirements.
· Accurately troubleshoot all equipment and tooling throughout the Welding, Resistance and Assembly areas.
· Set-up and verify errors on the machine, ensuring that error proofing systems are functioning according to the instructions. Help with error proofing process through 8D and 5 Why problem solving.
· Obtain and submit necessary weld cross sections from cut / etching samples and complete paperwork. Take appropriate corrective action when weld cross sections and etching samples fail: make corrections, submit new sample, investigate failure in a timely manner.
Leadership/Mentorship:
- Plan for and achieve departmental achievable goals including customer concerns, cost of poor quality, cost savings, and safety.
- Accountable to ensure proper documentation, and processes are followed.
- Train others to the manual MIG welding repair process.
- Crosstrain and mentor other Welding Technicians to improve the entire team’s throughput.
- Provide support to other technicians and operators throughout Welding, Resistance and Assembly. Communicate with other Welding Technicians from all shifts to enhance teamwork and communication initiatives.
Continuous Improvement/Lean Principles:
- Participate in, and support lean initiatives such as continuous improvement events and problem-solving events, identifying and eliminating all types of waste. Assist Welding Engineer with data collection. Document cost savings, and eliminate unnecessary operations.
- Provide assistance and input with engineering improvements for process setups, material handling, storage, layouts, work cells, and any other functions that directly impact the performance of the Welding and Assembly departments. Develop continuous improvements to reduce time and ensure part consistency throughout the Welding and Assembly areas.
- Suggest and implement ideas to increase personal and departmental efficiency.
- Anticipate problems and work to eliminate them before they happen.
- Follow up temporary fixes with permanent corrective actions, training other technicians and operators to also implement permanent corrective fixes.
Quality:
- Use and maintain quality tools such as calipers, micrometers torque tests, fixtures, CMM reports, push-out machine, quality alerts, inspection sheets and cut / etch.
- Read and interpret welding specifications stated on part prints to ensure quality of parts.
- Consistently adhere to, and support, company policies and procedures, including environmental and quality standards.
Safety/5S:
- Consistently adhere to, and support, company policies and procedures, including environmental, quality standards, and safety regulations.
- Follow all safety procedures, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), controls, and safety devices.
- Identify potential safety issues and take appropriate action. Ensure environment is free of avoidable risks, and report concerns immediately, taking appropriate action to immediately rectify and resolve.
- Own departmental and personal work area organization to achieve departmental 5S.
Teamwork:
- Consistently exhibit appropriate attendance habits, working the hours necessary to perform the job.
- Provide necessary, accurate, and timely feedback of all pertinent information to co-workers and management, including training and validating/appraising work as appropriate.

Education and/or Experience:
Certification or degree in welding from accredited college or technical school preferred. 3 or more years’ experience preferred.
