Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for the daily accounting operations of the company, with a focus on financial reporting, compliance, and process optimization. This role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices within the software industry, particularly with subscription-based revenue models, SaaS (Software as a Service) accounting, and software capitalization. The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in ensuring accurate financial records, supporting financial audits, and providing actionable insights to drive the company’s financial strategy. The ideal candidate will have experience in financial reporting, revenue recognition, month-end and year-end close, software capitalization, audits and compliance, and extensive experience with various financial systems and process improvements.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• • Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial reports in compliance with GAAP or IFRS.
  • Manage revenue recognition processes, particularly for SaaS products and subscription services.
  • Ensure compliance with ASC 606 or IFRS 15, including the identification and resolution of revenue recognition issues.
  • Assist in the development of accounting policies and procedures related to revenue recognition.
  • Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and timely.
  • Prepare account reconciliations and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Oversee the accounting for internally developed software, including the capitalization of development costs.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and company policies related to software development costs.
  • Coordinate and support external and internal audits, including preparing audit schedules and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including sales tax and income tax filings.
  • Assist in the implementation and optimization of accounting software and financial systems.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Provide support to Financial Controller
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts, including variance analysis.
  • Work with department heads to ensure alignment of day-to-day reconciliations.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or equivalent certification is highly preferred.
  • 5 years of accounting experience, preferably within the software or technology industry.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, and relevant accounting standards, particularly as they relate to software and SaaS companies.
  • Experience with revenue recognition, software capitalization, and financial reporting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Experience in a fast-growing, dynamic software company environment.
• Skills:
  • Proficient in accounting software and ERP systems, with experience in systems like NetSuite, Intact, and/or QuickBooks.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to create complex financial models and analyses.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and deadline-driven.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in small, remote environment.

Training and Job Performance Period:

Simply due to process consistency, we believe this role will be able to make an impact towards the INNERGY goals almost immediately upon being hired. That being said, there is a ramp up time to understand the industry and the problems it faces. You can expect the following support structure upon being hired:

• Comprehensive walkthroughs of the INNERGY Solution with the Product Team.
• Onboarding Plan, document, and Continuous Improvement Roadmap.
• Meetings with various departments to learn processes.
• Learn via osmosis – you will be invited to many calls as a guest for the first 60-90 days.
• 90-day, 6 month, and annual reviews.

Position requirements:

• Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
• Ability to work / look at a monitor for extended periods of time.
• Ability to lift 45lbs or less.
