Essential Responsibilities:
- Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws.
- Arranges for special needs as ordered by the physician on the surgery scheduling form (ex. Blood, equipment, techs).
- Arranges case priority according to established guidelines for each O.R. block (example: M.D. assist case, children and elderly, general anesthesia, and other cases.
- Notifies various departments of scheduling (i.e. Insurance, Pathology, Radiology, Business Office, and other appropriate departments).
- Prints the daily operating room schedule and other schedules as needed Distributes appropriately.
- Receives cancellations from patients and physicians.
- Cancels all preoperative appointments.
- Follows the cancellation procedure for notifying physicians and appropriate departments.
- o Schedules cases to fill cancellations for maximum utilization of operating room.
- Contacts physicians, appropriate departments and outside hospitals/physicians who perform surgery at Kaiser to obtain and provide all pertinent information regarding scheduling of operations.
- Schedules patients for all pre-operative appointments (CARE and INFORM computer scheduling) including: History and physical exam, lab tests, pre-op education class and preadmission interview.
- Schedules medical clearance, EKG, blood type and cross, physical therapy, special testing and pre-surgery consults as needed.
- Negotiates surgery date and all prescribed appointments with patients so that these are accomplished within appropriate time frames.
- Gives patients special dietary instructions and preparations for tests.
- Prints and mails confirmation letter and instructions to patients in a timely manner.
- One day in advance of surgery, gives patients their lime of surgery, check-in time and location and NPO status (dietary restrictions).
- Contacts patients who -no show- pre-op appointments and scheduled tests.
- Reschedules these appointments.
- Provides statistical reports for the Operating Room Committee, Administration and Surgical Departments.
- Performs other duties as required. Equipment Utilized: IBM-PC, (INFORM/CARE, Word-processing, Email), Typewriter, Omnifax, Duplicating Machine, Calculator) Assume other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.

Experience
- Typing 25 wpm, Successfully passing the Basic Computer Literacy Assessment,MedicalTerminology Test required.Alltesting must be completed by the end of the posting period. Good telephone skills and experience. Demonstrated ability to maintain positive working relationships and courteous interactions with members, co-workers and the public.
