Summary
To offer the student counseling and comprehensive, developmental guidance services in the areas of personal / social, educational / academic, and career / vocational growth and development which will enable him / her to live successfully and become a contributing member of society.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrate appropriate preparation for instruction.
- Implement the guidance curriculum.
- Counsel small groups and individual students with problems.
- Consult with teachers, staff and parents regarding the developmental needs of students.
- Refer students with severe problems to appropriate community resources in consultation with their parents.
- Be a part of the Special Ed team by attending team meetings.
- Be the 504 case managers of the building.
- Supporting the overall district's educational program through general consultation activities and committee work.
- Assist with the placement of students in appropriate career and educational settings.
- Provide input to the building principal and develop the master schedule for students.
- Create a positive learning environment.
- Effectively manage student behaviors.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and orderly environment within the school setting.
- Maintain accurate student records including attendance, grades and discipline.
- Complete and submit forms and required reports in a timely manner.
- Adhere to all the policies, procedures and regulations of the building and district.
- Report suspected abuse, neglect, discrimination and harassments as directed by Board policy.
Subject area teachers may have additional duties and responsibilities.

Qualifications
Degree in Guidance Counselor
Teaching Experience & Guidance Counseling Preferred
Knowledge of Missouri's Model Guidance Program
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations :
Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate

Read, analyze and interpret professional journals, Board policy, administrative procedures and forms and governmental regulations and guidance complete forms; write reports and engage in written correspondence with parents. Present information effectively and respond to questions. Write clear and complete lesson plans

An individual who holds this position must have the ability to :
Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations
Reasoning
An individual who holds this position must have the ability to :
Solve a variety of problems in many different situations. Interpret instructions presented in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Apply knowledge of current educational theory and instructional techniques while presenting subject matter to students

Identify needs and abilities of individual students and to adapt instructional methods accordingly. Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents. Perform multiple tasks simultaneously

Perform basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use. Use district software for recording grades and finding student information. Utilize smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology provided by the district
