NOTE: The hiring department may consider applicants at the Professional Trainee level. If this job class is used to fill the position, the successful candidate will be hired on a Limited Term (24 month) basis with the potential opportunity to advance to Associate Applications Developer.

Professional Trainee Salary: $60,743.00 annually

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or a closely related field and coursework in software design and development; requirements analysis; software development methodology; project management; and database management systems.

HOURS OF WORK: 4/10’s, 7am-6pm, M-Th.

The ideal candidate believes in continuous improvement and collaboration and has the eagerness for knowledge and problem-solving as part of a team; as well as possess the ability to develop applications in .Net and/or Java using object-oriented programming techniques. Experience with Azure is desirable.

INTRODUCTION: Human Resources will screen applications and supplemental questionnaires. Candidates possessing the strongest skills and experience for this position will be forwarded to the hiring department for further evaluation and to determine who will be invited to the formal interview process. The candidate hired will be required to pass a drug screening, background check and may be required to pass a job-related physical evaluation.

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under direct and more senior-level supervision, supports other developers in the design, development, modification, installation and maintenance of application software to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of District/SNWA operations and public service delivery; and performs related duties as assigned.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Principles and methods of systems analysis, including business process and entity relationship analysis tools and methods; the systems development life cycle; industry standard software development best practices and techniques; programming theory and applicable programming languages used by the District; software development tools, extensions and utilities and applicable scripting languages; relational database concepts and standard database software; functions, capabilities, characteristics and limitations of standard computer platforms and devices; basic network architecture and design concepts; basic web development technologies; principles and practices of sound business communications; standard business software, including word processing, spreadsheet, database and flow charting.

Ability to:

Demonstrate a basic understanding of work processes and business rules, and how they relate to customer needs and business requirements; understand and apply the analysis of functional requirements to the development of systems proposals, specifications and recommendations for efficient, cost effective information systems and technology solutions; set priorities and organize assigned work to complete project responsibilities efficiently and effectively; troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve systems problems in areas of responsibility; evaluate alternatives and make sound decisions within established guidance and direction; communicate clearly and effectively to diverse audiences of technical and non-technical personnel orally and in writing; assist in planning and conducting effective customer training programs; prepare clear, concise and accurate documentation, reports of work performed and other written materials; read, interpret, explain and apply technical information on business processes, software and hardware for technical and non-technical customers; keep technical skills current to meet continuing applications software development assignments; establish and maintain effective customer focused working relationships with managers, customers, vendors, consultants, employees and others encountered in the course of work.

Training and Experience:

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from a college or university with a major in computer science, management information systems or a closely related field; and at least one year of responsible experience in systems analysis and applications design and development; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

A valid Nevada driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability under the District’s Vehicle Insurance Policy.
