Position Title: Outreach and Communications Coordinator
Position Type: Full-time (40 hours per week), Non-Exempt
Reports to: Director of Development and Communications
About LYRIC
Founded in 1988, the Lavender Youth Recreation & Information Center (LYRIC) provides support and services to nearly 2,000 lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning (LGBTQQ ) and allied youth per year. LYRIC’s mission is to build community and inspire positive social change through education enhancement, career training, health promotion, and leadership development with LGBTQQ youth, their families, and allies of all races, classes, genders, and abilities. The organization has a budget of approximately $4million and a staff of 20 .
Focus Areas
THe Outreach and Communications Coordinator co-creates the design and supports the implementation of LYRIC’s communications. The Coordinator: (1) supports the expansion of LYRIC’s communications and development/ grassroots fundraising initiatives – aligning LYRIC’s values of social justice, learning, and leadership development to our communications and fund development practices; (2) supports LYRIC’s core fund development activities as they apply to LYRIC communications; and (3) manages outreach activities as the relate to fund development, programs, and organizational wide activities. The Communications Coordinator reports to the Director of Development and Communications
Knowledge
- Develop and implement a complimentary communications plan with Communications and Development Director to: (1) highlight LYRIC’s vision and community impact; (2) strengthen the organization’s external messaging; and (3) cultivate donor and community relationships
- Co-develop the strategic direction of LYRIC Communications
- Responsible for LYRIC’s digital communication channels including, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts, Inside and Out E-News, etc. ensuring regular postings and communication that promote the work of the organization with high quality content. Craft key organization-wide messages and manage their distribution through various print media (organizational collateral, reports and brochures, etc.). Coordinating consultants and vendors as needed.
- Develop and implement LYRIC Content Creation Guidelines, LYRIC Style Guide, LYRIC Social Media guidelines for staff and youth, etc.
- Support LYRIC’s communication campaigns including support of the LYRIC Capitol Renovation Campaign and others as needed
- Support communication sessions with and for board, staff, community members, and youth (including trainings, working groups, call nights, etc.)
- Engage community and external stakeholders in dialogue regarding community needs as opportunities present
- Maintain website and updates including consistency in pages, calendaring, etc.
- Support of community events as needed, including community outreach, documentation of events, and organization of photos for internal and public use and more
- Attend agency staff and Board meetings, retreats and gathering, as requested
- Provide input and co-develops LYRIC’s communications budget with the Development and Communications Director; Monitor budget v. actual progress of line items for which they are responsible throughout the fiscal year
- Perform other duties as assigned
Who You Are
- 2 years of verifiable experience in communications planning and implementation of diverse communication strategies for a nonprofit organization
- Excellent written communication skills (English); ability to compose, edit, and proofread materials
- Strong verbal communication, presentation skills
- Extensive computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suite
- Graphic design experience; proven experience using graphics and web development tools, including Publisher, Wordpress, basic HTML
- Experience working with Social Media (i.e. Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, etc.) on behalf of an organization
- Excellent project management and planning skills. Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects within deadlines. Self-motivated. Ability to hold yourself accountable for your own work

The salary for the position is non-exempt and receives an hourly wage of $30.58 per hour at 40 hours per week. LYRIC uses an equity-based model of compensation; we offer a fixed pay rate for staff according to position and tenure with an annual pay increase. Salary is non-negotiable.
