LEAP for Education is recruiting for a new Volunteer and Partnerships Specialist. Reporting to the Volunteer and Partnerships Coordinator (VPC), The Volunteer and Partnerships Specialist is a Senior Professional level role responsible for (1) managing and improving LEAP’s newly established volunteer program to enhance student experiences and organizational capacity; and, (2) supporting the implementation of revenue-producing partnerships and ongoing stewardship of those relationships. This role focuses on supporting volunteer recruitment, onboarding, engagement, and retention, ensuring that LEAP’s programs and partnerships are effectively supported by skilled and mission-aligned volunteers. The Volunteer and Partnerships Specialist collaborates closely with program teams to match volunteers to program needs, facilitates training and onboarding, and tracks volunteer impact. The role will also be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the data systems that track volunteer work and supporting and training the program teams in using it.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Volunteer Program Management

  • Support VPC in volunteer recruitment, screening, onboarding, background checking, training, and retention across LEAP’s programs, internal and external.
  • Execute volunteer outreach strategies, targeting individuals, schools, corporate partners, and community organizations.
  • Coordinate volunteer placements in alignment with program needs, ensuring an effective match between volunteer skills and student experiences.
  • Develop and refine volunteer role descriptions in collaboration with program staff and external partners.
  • Work closely with program teams to assess ongoing volunteer needs and adjust recruitment efforts accordingly.
  • Maintain volunteer policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with safety guidelines and organizational best practices.

Training and Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Serve as the initial point of contact for volunteers across LEAP.
  • Facilitate volunteer orientation and training sessions to ensure volunteers are prepared and confident in their roles.
  • Provide ongoing support, coaching, and professional development for volunteers, including training on youth engagement, mentoring, and DEI best practices.
  • Work closely with program staff to integrate volunteers effectively, ensuring they enhance student experiences.
  • Partner with the Volunteer and Partnerships Coordinator to engage corporate and institutional volunteers in meaningful ways.
  • Collaborate with the Development team to develop volunteer recruitment campaigns and success stories.
  • Develop and implement volunteer recognition initiatives, such as appreciation events, awards, and milestone acknowledgments.

Systems, Data, and Impact Reporting

  • Maintain systems and ensure data quality for volunteer tracking including Mentor Pro for our volunteer mentors and LGL for tracking volunteer contact information and Google Sheets for tracking volunteer hours.
  • Train volunteers, as needed, on the MentorPro system.
  • Maintain accurate volunteer records, including hours contributed, impact metrics, and retention rates, in collaboration with LEAP’s Data Specialist.
  • Track and analyze volunteer engagement trends to inform recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Develop quarterly volunteer impact reports, demonstrating outcomes, feedback, and areas for growth.
  • Ensure compliance with background check policies and required documentation for volunteers.

Partnership Support

  • Support VPC’s efforts to onboard new partners
  • Manage systems to track partner data
  • Train, as needed, partners on the Mentor Pro platform
  • Support VPC in stewarding partners through the year

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2 years of experience in volunteer management, community engagement, or nonprofit program coordination.
  • Experience working with database systems such as Salesforce or student information systems.
  • Strong recruitment, relationship-building, and event coordination skills.
  • Experience training and supporting diverse volunteers, including corporate partners, community members, and students.
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills, with the ability to engage and inspire volunteers.
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience working in youth development, education, or workforce readiness programs is a plus.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT

Work Environment and Hazards

  • Normal office working environment with occasional remote work if/as desired and arranged; generally free from noise and hazards with occasional exposure to heat and cold.
  • This position has limited exposure to hazards that require the exercise of caution with little likelihood of injury.

Physical Demands/Efforts

  • A desk-based position with occasional need to lift objects up to 25 lbs. (e.g. for events)

Travel

  • Minimal, occasional local travel involved for events, meetings, and donor visits; less than 25% travel is required.
