JOB SUMMARY: The Activities Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, and directing of Activity Services within the Inpatient Programs.

• Oversee activity programs of the A.T. Department and coordinates those activities established on each unit led by nursing and behavioral technicians. 
• Performs the work of Activities Specialist in providing activity assessment, treatment planning, interventions and documentation. 
• Develops ongoing programs to meet the needs of the clients through activity-based media. 
• Provides in-service training to hospital staff regarding the format and delivery of activities either in an individual or group setting. 
• Attends treatment team meetings and provides input into administrative or clinical concerns and observations. 
• Supervises the Activity Specialists with the A.T. Department in their clinical functions.  Supervises and monitors the documentation of the Activity Department as to its appropriateness and application in meeting the A.T. Department’s and Hospital’s needs. 
• Works with the Purchasing Department in the ordering of office and activity supplies and keeps copies of purchase order forms. 
• Reports regularly to the Director of Social Service and Emergency Services as to the progress of the A.T. Department’s current concerns.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Ability to effectively lead verbal and non-verbal group activities.  Ability to accurately observe and describe human behavior with documentation and in meetings.  Knowledge of group and individual activities beneficial for hospital psychiatric treatment.  Good interpersonal interaction skills.  Ability to plan and implement group and individual activity interventions and programs.  Ability to provide effective shift supervision.

JUDGMENT/DECISION MAKING: Able to exercise adequate judgment in interacting with psychiatric patients in a manner that is safe, shows respect, and is conducive to treatment goals. Utilizes established corporate policies and procedures in making decisions. Uses sound judgment in meeting the responsibilities and performing the duties of the position.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: 

• Education:  BS or BA Degree. Center and/or other relevant state certification requirements
• Experience:  Minimum of one-year supervisor experience and one year experience in an activity related field. Experience working with the mentally ill within a hospital or residential setting.

TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT: Completes all requirements according to Individual Training Plan within the first six months of hire and annually.  Other training and/or professional development may be assigned due to evolution of programs.
