POSITION PURPOSE:  

Briefly summarize why your job exists.

Key responsibility of this position is to support established industry practice reliability programs that can be further developed and maintained at the  facility.  The incumbent will support several areas including site-wide condition monitoring, refrigeration, baler hydraulics, PM and PdM programs, and other special assignments as circumstances dictate. Maintain reliability momentum that the site has begun to develop. This position is key in developing critical maintenance processes and procedures, for maintaining site equipment, and overseeing quality overhauls of essential components. 

 

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES: List each major accountability (end result) and the key activities necessary to accomplish the end result.

Condition Monitoring (Vibration, Lubrication, Oil analysis): Maintain and further develop existing programs.   Analyze results derived through data gathering to determine if/when maintenance must be conducted on equipment and what type of maintenance.  Coordinates with PMC to determine appropriate timing associated to necessary repairs.   (Data gathering will be accessible through analysis of vibration reports and oil analysis reports) 

Refrigeration : Obtain, review, and monitor conditions of site refrigeration units to keep equipment health maintained.  Analyze equipment conditions (turbines, pumps, DP across exchangers and filters, gear box oil levels, and system parameters) to identify issues as they begin to develop, so work can be scheduled prior to failure or process upset. 

Baler Hydraulic : Understand and troubleshoot the hydraulic systems of each of the production lines to reduce the number of failures and to decrease unnecessary downtime associated to these units. 

PM and PdM SME: Develop preventative maintenance activities (process and procedure) so as to extend the MTBF for critical pieces of equipment.  Also responsible to establish predictive maintenance activities which will allow maintenance scheduling of compromised pieces of equipment.  

SAP BOM’s:   Maintain and update BOM’s for equipment.

 

DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITIES: Describe the authority permitted by indicating decisions you are expected to make.  Relate the nature of decisions that you routinely make without guidance from supervision.

The Mechanical Reliability Specialist communicates with key individuals regarding findings discovered through testing and inspection.  The Specialist is expected to provide the appropriate amount of emphasis to any impending issue so as to create a suitable level of priority for any given finding.  This position functions through emphasis of and to recommendations but has little direct authority other than in critical SHE conditions. 

                

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS: State the minimum type and level of training and/or formal education and experience required to do your job.

 

Education:

  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Literate with computers and standard software packages (SAP, MS Office, E-Mail etc.).
  • Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English.

Related Experience:  

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the maintenance of mechanical and rotating systems and equipment in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience in installation, troubleshooting, inspection and repairs of industrial mechanical and rotating systems on equipment such as Pumps, Turbines, Chillers, Blowers and Heat Exchangers.
  • Experience in establishing Preventive Maintenance programs and procedures.

Special Training or Competencies:

  • Proven knowledge of Preventive and Predictive maintenance of industrial mechanical and rotating systems and equipment.
  • Proven ability to use all precision measuring devices and perform precision alignment on multi-train equipment.
  • Excellent communication and team interaction skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as lead/participate on teams.
  • Proven experience as a self-starter who effectively manages multiple tasks, achieves results with minimal supervision and possesses excellent documentation and record-keeping skills.

SPECIAL REMARKS/CHALLENGES

 

The overall objective of the Mechanical Reliability Specialist is to ensure the safe and reliable operation of production facilities at the lowest life cycle cost. The Mechanical Reliability Specialist will be responsible for the execution of preventive/predictive programs and corrective maintenance solutions for rotating and mechanical systems and equipment in the facility. This person will be expected to work with maintenance engineers and make technical decisions and recommendations in the field.

 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Support the plan, schedule, coordinate and perform major equipment installation, maintenance, overhauls and inspections - including corrective, preventative or predictive work - of industrial mechanical and rotating systems and equipment including 
    1. Centrifugal and positive displacement Pumps
    2. Turbines
    3. Gearboxes
    4. Heat Exchangers, Chillers and Cooling Towers
    5. Piping systems and other related process equipment
    6. Presses
    7. Conveying equipment
    8. Dryers
  • Support condition monitoring programs (Vibration, lubrication, oil analysis)
  • Assist in turnaround and outage planning and cost estimation of mechanical work.
  • Assist in Identifying and resolving chronic mechanical asset concerns (bad actors).
  • Support root cause analysis program for major failures.
  • Develops new equipment and creates or updates existing equipment BOM’s.
  • Works with Planner to develop new PM’s and PdM routes for facility equipment. Standard (running and down) PM, Vibration Analysis (PdM), Electronic Stethoscope (PdM), Lubrication (PM), Thermography (PdM), Oil analysis (PdM). 
  • Drive resolution of highest impact issues with a strong sense of urgency and integrity. 
  • Become proficient with maintenance CMMS to include the following modules. Work Orders, Equipment List, Spares Inventory’s, PM and PdM’s

This position requires a combination of office work and field work.  Accessibility during off-hours is required and may include additional hours, above the expected 40, at the site. Employee will be required to work in different weather conditions and must be able to access elevated electrical and mechanical equipment via ladders, scaffolding, and man-lifts.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proven understanding of regulatory and industrial standards and codes.
  • Successful completion of a 4-year machinist/ millwright apprenticeship program.
  • Proven hands-on experience in vibration analysis.
  • Proven experience in a CMMS system.
  • Proven familiarity with standard reliability and maintenance strategies such as planning, PM programs, PdM programs and spare parts inventory management.
