This versatile position will perform a variety of specialized and complex duties associated with processing and analyzing accounting records in the Property Accounting/Fixed Asset department.
Duties And Responsibilities
This role involves a variety of analytical and accounting responsibilities including:
- Reconciling and analyzing property accounting fixed asset accounts and resolving any discrepancies.
- Preparing journal entries or project transactions to resolve issues identified during the reconciliation or analysis process.
- Supporting monthly project cost review, including researching and correcting misapplied costs.
- Leading departmental initiatives focused on process improvement, efficiency, and documentation.
- Collaborating with other departments to identify, facilitate, and implement improved processes.
- Reviewing accountant-prepared documents for completeness and accuracy.
- Ensuring Sarbanes Oxley compliance by performing required internal control processes.
- Updating and maintaining labor rates and overhead calculations for billing purposes.
- Assisting with internal and external audit requests, including regulatory filings to the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
- Contributing to special projects as needed to achieve departmental goals.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field or equivalent experience preferred.
- A minimum of two years of relevant work experience, preferably within the energy/utilities industry.
- Advanced computer skills with Microsoft Excel required.
- Knowledge of accounting or accounting skills a must.
- Experience with software applications such as Oracle Cloud ERP and PowerPlan fixed asset software is a plus.
- Knowledge of FERC or Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) accounting standards a plus.
- Demonstrates critical thinking and strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
- Experience developing efficiency and process improvements preferred.
- Excellent accuracy and attention to detail required.
- Able to work well both independently and as part of a team.
- Able to multitask, manage workloads, meet deadlines, and quickly adapt to changing priorities.
